Watering(waiting for soil to dry or not)?

I was just told by a professional grower that he waters his plants no matter what. That he doesn’t wait for the soil to dry between waterings. He said that waiting for the soil to dry completely is just for stressing the plant
Which is the truth?

Every grower I know does wet/dry cycles. It’s necessary for proper root health. It is especially important for young plants. Watering a young plant too often is the leading cause of seedling loss among new growers. Cannabis roots need oxygen, and it’s difficult for them to extract oxygen from soil if it is wet all the time.

100% need to dry between waterings in soil

@MidwestGuy @Riskguy

Thank you. He must be talking about once they are matured and flowering then.
Im taking everyones word here as gold. I took his with a grain of salt. Im just questioning this right now because i just watered a plant that only has its 2 sets of leaves showing and its low in nutrients but, its still growing and looking healthy. Im not going to do anything to it now but, once the soil dries completely, im watering it with some composte tea that i mixed up. I poured some in some test dirt that i made with zero nutrients and very low pH. Once i poured in the composte tea everything was where its supposed to be.

A more mature plant can handle it better than younger plants, but it certainly isn’t optimal even for mature plants.

He must be growing a very rugged strain?

Hard to say. We all see things that “the guy in the hydro shop told me…” that just makes no sense at all.

Yep…lol… some people just say things to make themselves feel important even if they know its wrong. Or they just might want to see you fail…

Community has covered , wet to dry cycle is going to be your best bet. Depending on the size of the pots an Temperature how Quick they dry out Will determine when you need to water. (2 to 3 days)
Happy growing :v:

Do you by chance know what his method of growing? What medium he’s using? Living soil organic growers don’t let their soils dry out completely due to its detrimental to the organisms within the soil.

That’s a really good point. Coco requires watering every day.

Yes, he said he gows in manure. Cow poop…

A manure compost mix is fine in a soil base is fine. It’s not something I would do with coco. Did he say straight manure? Very confusing.

Unfortunately “professional grower” sometimes means that you do know a lot about the regulatory requirements, and perhaps very little about actual growing to legally have the title. It’s doesn’t make you a legitimate grower. You have to have experience and made the mistakes we all make. Whoever it is seems to be making some really questionable statements.

@MidwestGuy

Biocanna fertilizers. Thats what he uses. And grows right in the dirt mixed with manure.

Makes more sense.

I agree with the questionable satements. He is a bit eccentric.

Should i grab some Biocanna?

Seems a few people here use it, but I don’t see it mentioned very often. It’s probably a fine product. Most dedicated cannabis fertilizers are decent, but each have their unique problems. For example, the Fox Farm Trio is very salty and submarines your pH by the time you get a few weeks into flowering.

I was scrolling to post something similar to this. But more along the lines of “completely”. Running a wet/dry cycle doesn’t mean pots have to be bone dry before watering again. Just like not allowing to dry out doesn’t mean you have to keep pot soaked. There is a happy medium that most can pick up after a grow or two.

For a new grower it seems easier to recover from going a little longer without water than finding out hard way that they have been watering too frequently.

Im one for over watering any plant that i grow so, i need to be extra careful. Im also good at over fertilizing and killing plants. Ive been growing tomatoes from seeds that past few years as practice. Ive learned how to kill plants very well…LOL Now its time i learn how to grow them. At least i know what to avoid now.
