Hahaha. I was trying to save some for the end of flower. Ever since I started following your Grow off with not2sureyet and you mentioned dli, I’ve been researching it.
No point, once your at pre flower pre stretch max lights. Avoid the stretch and build buds
I like the way way you think.
I personally defoliate before switching and 1 or 3 weeks after switch. But thats depending on the strain and how leafy it is
What’s your theory behind that?
From all the research and experience I’ve been able to gather defoilation is best done once bud sites develop, as bud needs light to grow and mature.
Leaf material is biomass that increases photosynthesis, thus leaving it until post stretch will give you the biggest strongest plants vs removing biomass before stretch.
Its just something i do. I dont go crazy but if ive done alot of lst and where i feel i dont has as much use for certain leafs i chop em off before i flip and its real leafy then again after stretch. Everyone has a preference and growing in general is preference. Its worked for me so far and plenty enough leafs left for proper photosynthesis. I go for certain leafs. I just grow for myself and do it as a hobby so if i potentially lost a 10% yeild cause of preflower defoliation its not a big deal but i cant tell a difference
Wasn’t this the Adam Sandler goat skit!?
Yes it was I got the 90’s comedian wrong haha
Hey everyone! Update time.
Lucy is doing freaking awesome! Buttons started to really show about 4 days ago and now they’re really there! Some are even showing trichome development already. All 10 tops/branches have 6-7 bud sites on them so she should pretty much just be colas. She is also taking up most of the tent all by her lonesome. I haven’t seen any more male flowers as of yet, but obviously will have to continue looking throughout the rest of flower. I took the advise from @Nicky and bumped my DLI up to 56, the max for my light. Light is set at 14” from canopy as well. Daytime temps are around 75f with a way low 39%rh. I guess I can’t run the wood stove without the humidifier in the room. Night time temps are 67f with 46% rh. Since I don’t have a controller or a variable speed exhaust fan, I ran a power strip from the wall and put my extra timer on it then connected the exhaust and set it to only run for 30min at a time and only turn on 6 times during darkness. For my lights on period, it still only runs for 30 minutes at a time but turns on every hour. We will see what that does to my temp and humidity over the next day or two.
Looking really nice
Well thank you!
Looking good Jake!
Yeah wood is one of the many dry heat types but you can put a big pot of water in the top of the stove we do that at my parents house. It will calcify so keep that in mind get a junker from the local thrift store or something you enever use.
Just want to ensure you took a couple readings right? Remeber it’s an average for the DLI.
Really nice LST
Hey Nicky! Thanks, and yes it’s definitely dry. We have an old 4qt pot on the top of the wood stove at all times and a humidifier in all bedrooms, but I think I need to move the one in my room closer to the tent. I don’t mind 40-45%rh in the last 2 weeks of flower but it’s messing with my vpd hardcore right now. I’ve actually loosened all of the lst ties tonight. Put just a little bit of slack in them too see if she holds her shape or tries to spring back. If they’re tight again when I come home tomorrow then I’ll have to put just a tiny bit of pressure back on them to keep her opened up for another week or 2. I’d think by week 4 of flower she should have a nice woody branch base.
Just got back home from a weekend away with my father in-law and my youngest daughter. Had a great time drinking with him at the family cabin and playing in the snow with my daughter.
Now that I’m home and had a delicious roast beef dinner prepared by my wife and spent some time with my oldest daughter I guess it’s back to tending to Lucy. I had given her a 1/2 gallon watering at 6.2ph on Friday afternoon. She was dry but very happy upon my return so she got some GH Kool Bloom for dinner tonight. Full strength because she’s a hungry girl. Ph 6.4 @1/2 gallon. I gave her another 2.5ml of cal-mag as well. Her buds/buttons have easily doubled in size over the weekend and she’s starting to develop some trichomes on all bud sites now. Lucy also is beginning to have her own scent. Much like a sweet Mellon.
Sounds like a great time! Cheers
Looking healthy
@Hellraiser, I think I read in a past thread of yours that you used GH nutes. If so, I’m currently trying out their Kool Bloom in this grow since I didn’t have enough Fox Farm to finish out. Is there anything else in their line that I should be running as micro? I’m in week 3 of flower now.
Last time I used GH nutes, I only used the base nutes, was a very long time ago, no experience with the other products they have.
Darn. Well thank you for getting back to me so fast!
