And then there was 1. 2 turned out to be male.
luckily the largest one threw some pistils out at me last night.Since I’ve got so much room now, I decided it was time to transplant my girl up to a 3gallon pot. Lots of room for her roots to spread out again. I also gave her a treatment of extreme mykos. I guess I’m gonna see if I can fill the tent with her before I flip. She has 4 main branches with 3 nodes on each. The 2 lower branches first nodes are almost non existent so I’ll probably pinch them off a week or so before she gets flipped. I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
Happy new year! I hope everyone had a great night. My wife has yet to name this plant so it’s still just a girl. One that I believe is a Sativa dominant based solely on her leaf structure. Anywho, she’s doing great in her 3 gallon pot. All her secondary branches have begun to develop well except a few that just won’t grow so I trimmed them off since I really don’t want 20+ tops on her. I’d like to have 12 tops total so I will be removing more once I determine which ones seem to be the most vigorous. Currently she’s about 18” tall from the floor and I only have about 4’ of vertical space in this 5’ tall tent. Once I get my 2 autoflowers out, she will be moved directly under the light and I’ll continue LST to keep her tops separated for airflow.
Ok guys, big news here. We have named our girl Lucy! Lucy also now has the tent to herself and she got a little haircut again. I just harvested the 2 autoflowers that we’re occupying the tent so I dialed my driver back to 100watts usage to encourage a little stretch during her stretch. That’s right. She is now under a 12/12 with her 10 remaining tops. She got her last veg feeding today (600ppm) unless she shows she needs a little more. I added just a touch of bloom nutes (250ppm) to ease her in. Total volume of feed/water was 1/2 gallon at 6.2pH with about 20% runoff. Runoff ppm was way high at 2248ppm so she will get a flush for her next watering in 2 days or so. Runoff pH was a little high too at 7.1 so her flush will be about 5.5pH so I’m in the recommend range for her medium. If anyone has anything to add for tips please do. This is my first photo run.
Nice! Lots of LST will really pay off in the future.
7 Days already! Man how time flies. Lucy is doing well. Stretch is starting now but I’m super happy with her very even canopy height. I’ve seen about 3” of vertical growth in the last 2 days. I’m going to lower my light a little tomorrow to try and get her node spacing a little tighter now. I started her on a new bloom nute. GH Kool Bloom. I’ve never used it before but the guy at the local hydro shop loves it. Fed her 1/2 gallon today at 1/2 strength 6.0ph, 450ppm.
Ok all, my auction seeds finally came in this week. I’m super stoked about them and bummed at the same time. I did not receive one of the strains that I won the bid on and think that it would’ve been nice to know that it was substituted with something else.
I received:
10 Orange Poison reg photos by unknown breeder
10 Lemon Haze reg photos by Zia Farms
10 Jigsaw (chocolate x purple jior) by unknown breeder unless the breeder is jigsaw?
3 Lazy Glue by SoFem
What I am missing is the Cherry Berry Kush. That’s the one that I was super stoked about because I’ve wanted a Kush strain. Would’ve been nice to at the very least been told that they had to substitute something else for it and maybe have been offered a choice or opinion in what I would’ve liked to receive in its place. I did message the breeder/bank that I got them through and thanked them for the shipment but also let them know that i think it would’ve been nice to get a heads up.
Your plants are looking beautiful. Great job so far
Good luck this is my bag seed Gorilla glue she’s almost ready to come down in a week she was the only one out of 4 plants to not turn Hermie on me haha
I’d like everyone’s opinion/input/style on this please. Since this is my first photo period grow, what signs from the plant do you look for before you decide to defoliate? Do you wait of the majority of their stretch to be done with?
I flipped to 12/12 10 days ago and tonight I’m just noticing buttons starting to form and she’s had about 6” of vertical growth in the last week. I expect her to stretch for another 15 days or so. I could be way off on that.
I wait till the stretch is over and I see pistils fluffy and ststting to form buds.
Day zero after flipping, I did a little defoliation to expose lower bud sites. On day 22, I cut almost every leaf that had a stem and removed all the larfy bud sites.
I’m planning my next stripping around day 42.
I didn’t look for any signs on the plants. I just followed what I had seen other successful growers here do.
I’ve got horrible news. I was checking on Lucy just after lights came on tonight. At the topping point on all 4 of her main branches, there were pollen sacks!
Since I was already in there, I decided to give her/him/them a haircut. I removed every single new branch/ offshoot from that topping point on all 4 of those branches and removed 2 fan leaves that were blocking 2 bud sites each. After that I checked the rest of the plant for more male flowers. I can’t find anymore as of yet. Then I removed Lucy from the tent and zipped myself inside with the grow light off and every single light in the room turned on. I have zero light leaks even with my wife shining 1000 lumen flashlight all over every inch of the tent walls, vents and zipper.
I can only assume that it’s the plants genetics since I don’t open it at all if the light is off. It sucks but if I stay vigilant, I’m hoping I can limp her through the rest of flowering and not get a pollinated plant.
That really sucks, brother. I’m sorry. At least you’ve got a plan to bring this plant to harvest.
Thanks Oly. I sure hope I get it there. Especially since the wife won’t let me drop another bean right now. Gotta take a hiatus for a few months.
@Nicky I have a question about dli. I just downloaded a meter on my phone that measures dli in 12/18/24hr periods as well as ppfd. Followed all instructions and took a bunch of different readings. According to the app, my average dli at canopy level is 42.3 for my 12/12 light schedule. I took the ppfd average and followed a calculation I found online and came up with 43.1 so I’ll assume that the app is at least accurate to what the ppfd readings it collected are. Still could be way off if it’s not getting accurate readings. Anyway, would you say that 43dli is ok for week 2 since flip?
It’s okay yeah
60 is max with all environmental controls ideal.
40+ is good 45+ is ideal.
You’ll be fine though
I can still raise the dli. I’m only at 75% power on my driver, about 100 of the 150watts.
Crank it up F*cker! (from the Tom Green goat reference)
