Just lost a HLG 550 RSPEC. Shot flames from the driver. I hate the smell of burning electrical. Glad it happened while I was around.

In case you ever wonder why I use multiple lights for my room instead of just one, this would be the reason. Removed the 550 and added 2 p2500 more back in its place.

2 years is acceptable. I probably use them a little harder then the manufacturer recommendations.

Yep, I keep 2 extinguishers down there. I may look into adding a fire suppression system.

@Hellraiser, just a heads up. Had one of the drivers on an HLG 550 fail yesterday. I know yours are about the same age. Sounded like 5-6 gunshots going off inside the driver box, and shot 4 inch flames out the sides. Going took look at a Halon suppression system for the area.

Have u checked with hlg to see if they came up with the decision to switch drivers with that style light before u buy another driver. I know some of their lights the diablos and xl lights they r using inventronics drivers as the meanwell they found didn’t stand up to the light like they want and the inventronics seems to last longer with them styles.

I will not reuse that light. It yielded many pounds over it’s lifetime. No complaints or regrets. Will look at something new for future grows.

Shit someone on here might be able to get a driver and use it for a starter light that’d be awesome. I have a bunch of lights but all blurples or I’d donate also lol. Well a few 240w enfun boards lol. I’m sure it room can do without that one light lol. There is plenty in place of it

Yeah I had heard they had some over heating issues with the Meanwell driver on the 550’s. My 550 rspec was one of the first to come with the Inventronics driver so maybe I won’t have that issue.

Thank you, that’s all the endorsement for me to remove the 2nd 550 out of the room. Can’t have a known fire risk waiting to happen. I will delay flip by 10 days, add new replacement lights, and shuffle the existing remaining lights.
