Anyone using this thing? Looks like it can switch from 600 watt to 1000 watt and can use metal halide and high pressure sodium bulbs. Heat shouldn’t be an issue since I’m not doing a grow tent, but a whole bedroom about 14’x14’ approximately.
I’m going to add two cheap LED lights to the mix (one 600 watts and one 1000 watts but each one only pulls about 100-120 watts).
I want to figure out the square footage for a good harvest of feminized sativas. I’m assuming maybe 4’x4’ is a good start with all three lights at 2 feet height above the plants at all times with the 1000 watt MD/HPS light in the middle with 6 inch ducting connected to two inline Vivosun fans that turn on and off depending on the temperature range you set. They will probably be placed all together on one hook connected to the ceiling which is about 9 feet from floor level.
Ceiling hook says it can take 50 pounds weight and I did screw it into a ceiling stud. Second image is just the two LED lights which are pretty light in weight. Ceiling fan should cut down on the heat as well.
I’ve never used bulb lights so I don’t know anything about them but I know they work that’s all there was for a long time and they work very good with the right bulb. They use quite a bit of electricity though
1000w of that type light should be good for 20 sq ft. So it should effectively flower a 4’x4’ area (if it truly is 1000w).
You may not need the other lights. Personally, I wouldn’t waste money on the “blurple” style leds.
Hps/mh are far from efficient, but they have proven themselves adequate for growing good weed.
I’d start more than 2’ from the plants. You can always lower it.
MH/ HPS are seriously great lights for the money, I used to use them… I went with LEDs later based on electricity usage. To make HPS cost effective you have to do a big grow. I’m in NY and it brought my electric bill up on average $90 a month. I grow at most 4 plants at a time so was not worth it for me.
Anywho just something to think about.
Started with hps/mh lighting. Hated heat. Went to led and have never looked back. Cost a bit more but with 50k hours life…heat drop…dimmable…and the just amazing results ill never touch a bulb again. Just my opinion. For indoor i believe led is king hands down. I like qboards with 301b or h diodes.
After buying 4 different LED lights, I’m sick of them. 1600 watts in a 4’x2’ tent wasn’t enough light but still brought the temps up too high when zippered up for more than a day or two. Screw LED.
ChilLED sells 600 watt DIY LEDs at $1,050 that only covers a 4’x4’ grow area? And that’s their “sale” price lol. There’s no way that’s not a ridiculous price for a home grower.
yea, it’s the one i use. the glow craft x6. it provides excellent coverage and doesn’t heat up the tent. it uses top of the line diodes. and i’m only pulling 3 amps from the wall for that 600 watts so my electric bill likes it
look, as with all things in life, if you buy the cheap stuff there are usually consequences.
with one quality harvest the light pays for itself so i don’t think it’s really that expensive considering what you get.
@HappyHydroGrower also uses chilled and he can tell you how great they are. he grows some great looking bud
That is part of reason you have had the experience with leds. Led fixtures that actually produce more ppf per watt than hps are expensive. And the cheap led manufacturers never provide the actual ppf of their fixtures, just a bunch of unsupported claims. People buy based on the claims, and when the lights don’t perform feel that leds aren’t capable.
Typical single ended 1000 watt hps will flower about 20 ft².
I’m not a dispensary, so $1000 is an unnecessary investment for personal use when I can walk two blocks down the street and buy over 100 top quality strains for $8-$10/gram. I’m glad you like your job at chilLED though.
man i wish i had a cool job like that. in reality it’s much more boring.
look man, you came on here asking some questions and you’ve been kinda rude to someone who came in good faith. i wish you well on your growing journey as it’s clear you don’t want or need any advice from me.
try to listen to the other good people on here. they know what they’re taking about.
My total area is around 8x8 with a light over each 4x4 section. I started with 4x 1000w hps but I’m switching to LED one light at a time as they are expensive. This is one section under HPS
Sounds good, I don’t need a professional setup for $1000+. It just seemed that $189 is a really low price for a 1000 watt HID and I was wondering if that price was too good to be true.
Then again it was a long time ago that I was pricing them and they used to be about $1/watt.
I think I’ll be good with 4-6 plants but who knows? Time will tell.
I get great results under HPS and the power cost is nothing compared to the harvest. My only reason for switching is I have a small breaker panel and need the extra amps the lower wattage LED provides.
