The Vivosun 1000 watt metal halide / high pressure sodium

Pretty happy with my new adjustable wattage MH/HPS. 600 watts, 750 watts, 1000 watts.

Perfect for at the very least 4’ x 4’ square footage with 2’ vertical differential from top of plant to bottom of light.

Heat is a main issue for metal halide and high pressure sodium lights, but when you are growing for personal use in a 12’ x 12’ x 11’ room, why does it matter? Just throw in that 8" inline Vivosun temperature adjustable fan and the entire room never seems to get above 89 degree F even in the afternoon with no AC and no ceiling fan turned on (which is a possibility).

As a new member about a week here, there’s a lot of hate for the MH/HPS people even before I was attempting to order it from the Amazonians (“get your money back now!!!”). My bad, it’s my money and I like it. :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face:

Looking good! There’s not really any hate on HID’s. It’s tried and true technology. It’s just that there’s a more efficient way nowadays. When you can cut 1/3 of your energy expense, especially for large ops, it can be a game changer. Even more when energy costs are going up.

I have led lighting but also have a hid room. The results are awsome and I like the way the lights look. It’s a weed thing. Do what makes ya happy.

Since you do both, besides the heat / electricity bill, what do you think are the pros and cons?

Grow time, any significant difference?

Light penetration difference?

Final product, do you get the same result, bud density or thc levels?

You’re the perfect person to ask… :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I feel like the highest end leds cost more but will out perform h i d lighting but h I d will out perform the mid range leds like my mars hydro ts2000’s and cost less to purchase.
I feel like my h I d lights do a great job the 600 watt are the most efficient. My buds get so dense I have 6 plus fans to keep mold under control.
I feel like grow time is mostly determined by strain took 10 -12 weeks of flower to get gorilla glue to harvest but raspberry cough took 9 weeks.
I think no matter which way I grow keeping feed ph levels where they should be keeping light DLi in the proper range ( look up Dr bugbee) and keeping vpd in the zone are the most important. Then plant management ( training and trimming technique) then harvesting at the right time with proper dry time and cure. Seems like a lot but it’s fairly easy now for me. I’m not trying to sell any products here but using coco and jacks 321 eliminated a lot of variables and the issues like deficiencies and enables me to spend the time making sure the other things are in order.
That’s the most I’ve written ever. My thumbs are tired so going to soak them in Epsom bath and take a nap
I’m a complete beginner. So no expert. Since Dec 2020 I’ve had only 8 harvests some fails some not so bad.
I will try to answer any question you may have but get several responses from various and pick what works for you. Don’t stress it should be fun it’s a weed thing.

Acknowledged, I’ve heard of VPD but never tried to dial it in on purpose. I’ll keep it in mind this time and found a good VPD chart. Thanks!
