Has anyone heard about using Boraxo as a wetting agent?
Borax contains sodium borate. Products such as Sledgehammer use sopanins instead. Sopanins are derived from yucca and are intended for botany and are less harsh than products that contain sodium borate.
Sodium borate is controversial and can influence both pH and plant nutrient uptake. Over-application can kill a plant. It would be better to use Sledgehammer or Florakleen.
Ok, @MidwestGuy thank you! I was asking because i have some on hand thats been in my closet since the early 70’s. You can tell by the container its in also. So i thought (out of convenience) that if Boraxo would be safe i would use some as ProMix recommends for a wetting agent.
I am in ProMix HP this run and they say to use a wetting agent around the 11th week.
I am wondering if i even need one anyway?
It just flushes out the medium but i guess it depends on how much Yucca i use also.
Would it be a good idea to use a little Florakleen or Yucca in a few some weeks? Is it beneficial?
You do not. Promix HP is superior to coco IMO.
Alright, thank you. I didn’t ever hear much about people using it alot anyway. I mostly hear about it on a few FB pages. Like its some kind of majick booster… LOL
The only time Promix needs wetting agents is if it is allowed to over dry and gets hydrophobic, then it can help get the media saturated evenly.
