Hey guys, so this isn’t my first grow but a few plants that I’ve had have all really gone to crap in the drying phase. Things are going better this time, but I wanted to get your input.
I’m on day six of drying one plant, hung the whole plant. m growing in a tent in an uninsulated shed so there are lots of temp/humidity fluctuations. I’ve kept it as stable as I can with air conditioner, fans, and dehumidifier. I just checked data from the past week and it said the average temperature has been 64 and the average humidity was 60, but there have been outliers. Temp today got as high as 80 and humidity was up to 65.
In regards to ventilation I have an oscillating fan going on the lowest setting, and my exhaust fan set to 20%. It’s also getting active air intake from the air conditioner, which I had to rig to blow directly into the tent. No air direct on the buds.
Sugar leaves are crispy, but not crumbly. The buds are still very spongy. I don’t feel any crisp at all. I used a moisture meter yesterday and it said the buds were between 16 and 18%. It’s worth noting I’ve never used one of them before, but I think I did it right.
Maintaining that 60/60, or even hitting it, is near impossible for home growers. As long as you can stay under 70 as much as possible and keep around 55-60% with rh, you should be ok. Shoot for at least a week, 10 days is good, 14 even better. I’d rather end up with overly dry weed than mold and have none at all lol.
@Borderryan22 has you covered. You can jar them up when your meter reads 11% and then burp and cure. Try to maintain 55-60 rh in jars.
I’ve got the oscillating fan going. The hanging buds are swinging ever so slightly. Does that means there’s too much air?
Never have air blowing over your buds. Point it at the wall or corner on low
When in doubt. Keep drying!
It’s not, it’s bouncing off a wall first. It’s on 20% power. The buds are moving almost imperceptibly, but they are moving. Think it’s too much?
In this case I’m more worried about mold. I’m trying to find the balance of course, but the scales are definitely tipping towards mold rather than over dry
If the air moves your buds at all, it’s too strong and will crisp the outside and leave inside mushy.
I’m on day 8. I cut one of the bigger buds and jarred it for a couple hours. 64%. Buds buds are coming off with a string. I tried to trim it a little bit and I’m having to peel the crows feet off. I’m figuring in the next two or three days I should be good to go. The temp is higher this week (up to 80 in the tent) but thankfully I’ve been able to keep the humidity in check.
Your close at 64 rh, day or two more should do it.
If this is a continuous issue you could consider breaking the plant down some and hang it in sections
why couldnt someone have a fan blowing on their plants from distance?
This
Huh, ive dried hundreds of whole plants and never once did i experience that result.
Probably climate differences?
Yeah where i live humidity exists for like 2 months out of the year mostly, its gotta be that!
