Trichome Check, Is It Time?

Wedding Cake Auto, high potency 70% Indica hybrid. It’s 65 days above ground, all fan leaves have yellowed off, sugar leaves yellowing and some tips curling, water uptake extremely reduced for the past week.

Trichomes appear 75% milky, 25% clear to me. I don’t see any amber on the buds. Bioassay results in a heavy, pleasant stone from one puff of green, microwave dried larf bud already so potency is high.

I’m NOT looking for couch-lock but I don’t want to chop too early and cut yield short. So, what do you think? Is it time or can I let these go another few days or more without turning into zombie weed?

Make sure you’re looking at trichs on the buds, and not the leaves. Looks like they could go a little while longer to me.

They’re definitely bud/calyx pics as best I can get them. Those were yesterday, here are a few more from today

Thanks, but I’m not creating a YouTube account to watch a video about marijuana.

I’d give it 10-14 days, to let the clear trichs turn cloudy. And let some of the cloudy turn a little amber.

Am I wrong seeing those trichomes as mostly cloudy? I definitely see some clear ones but it looks like most are cloudy to me.

If most of the trichomes are cloudy, all of the large fan leaves have yellowed and died, all of the remaining leaves have turned a banana yellow, water used has almost stopped and 75% of the stigmas have turned red, will the buds still continue to fill out and add weight?

Because aside from bulking up the buds she appears to show everything I’ve been told to to look for in a finished plant.

Depends on the high you want.

Clear cloudy mix = energetic head high.
Cloudy amber mix = lethargic body high.

There’s blends between them all, and that’s absurdly dumbed down, but essentially what we’re looking for.

I get that, I mentioned in the OP that I don’t want couch-lock. From a buzz-quality POV it’s where I want it. One tiny puff of a few crumbs just microwave dried for a couple minutes is intense but not paralyzing. I’d imagine that once it’s properly dried and cured it’ll be much better.

My question is, will the buds still bulk up substantially in spite of all the indicators I mentioned that would seem to indicate it’s very close to done? If the plant was still green(ish) and taking water I’d let it ride but at this point I don’t really want it to get any “stonier” but I’d like to let it bulk up if it will still do so without going amber…

I’d expect final swell to finish by about 7 weeks for indica, a week or 2 later for sativa.

Still alot of clear trichomes you still have a week or so to go

Thanks but nobody is answering my question.

Will the buds get much bigger considering all the aforementioned signals? I

don’t want/need much more potency development or change, the only thing left that I’d be willing to wait for is more mass, if it could be expected to happen without too much change toward couch-lockiness. I suspect that the buds are about as big as they’re going to get once all the leaves are yellow but I’m not sure.

This is an indica dominant, auto flowering plant that is 9.5 weeks above ground. First signs of sexual ID were about 6 weeks ago.

dont go by how long above ground, how long exactly has she been flowering is the question, also the pistils dont seem to be receded yet

You’re still at least a week earlier than we would chop in my garden.

And as stated above, you go by flower and not by ground break.

heres an indica dominant plant at 13 weeks above soil and 10 weeks 3 days flowering, pistils receded and i still have a bit of clear trichs in spots

The buds will get bigger they keep getting bigger

Hard to nail down an exact date for start of “flowering” with an auto. Is it the day you see the first pistil? The first fading/narrowing of leaves at future bud sites? The first white hairs at bud sites?

If my plant still had green leaves I wouldn’t be asking but the leaves all went yellow weeks ago and most fell off over a week ago. It also basically quit taking water and trichomes are mostly cloudy so it seems like it’s pretty well done. My concern is that it’s going to die instead of just ripening/maturing/bulking, but maybe that’s not a thing? I’d just hate to all of a sudden realize that the buds are trash for some reason. They’re damn good right now, 1-2 puffs from a crumb of quick-dried larfy bud hits pretty hard, lol.

It looks like it’s is still adding bud-bulk (slowly) so I’ll let it go until the first sign of amber trichs. (There are already a few but it’s maybe 1%) and then it’ll be chop time. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t surprise die on me…

I start counting when I see pistil hairs crowning. It’s not exact science. But you get a feel for it.

If you’re satisfied with your test bud… That’s everything you need to know!
