Total Newbie First Grow

@dbrn32 I really hope that isn’t the case. I looked all over and didn’t see any bugs, but didn’t have a magnifying glass. I’ve ordered one, so we’ll see. I didn’t see anything that looked like white dust or anything under leaves. Also, I’m curious, are people on this site more likely to engage in ones journal if you’re a member? Being new I just want to make sure I’m posting/following intended procedures. Thanks again.

White residue would more likely be white powdery mildew, it wouldn’t take chunks from your leaves like that.

There’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing. There’s also no membership here other than what you’re doing. You pretty much sign up and you’re just as much of a member as anyone else. The longer you’re a member and more active you are there are some little spiffs. You’ll get some extra likes to use and have a few more tools to help others should you choose. Everyone is treated the same otherwise.

Most of the time members build relationships with each other just through whatever interactions. Maybe you stop by another’s journal and have interest in something they are doing or a piece of their equipment and you ask. Hell, it could be just dropping in to say hello. We were all new here at one time.

I do suspect you have some bugs, unless maybe you have a cat or something that has access to the plants?

@Myfriendis410 @MattyBear @Missiles @Covertgrower thoughts on plants couple posts above?

Really all you have to do is, just start reading journals and occasionally comment. Whether it’s to give someone some encouragement or ask a question. The more you engage with others, the more likely you’ll get people following journal. I usually will set to watch new members journal so I can see what they are doing and possibly learn a little also. Don’t be shy if you want someone to follow journal tag them and invite them to follow. :+1:

It looks like something had been chewing on those leaves to me also. I would be looking under the leaves with a scope if you could. Or if you have a cat or a small animal like DB suggested that could happen also. Is it only on plant that has those marks on it?

Yep, looks like something chewed on it. I often have leaves like this from moving them around.

Thanks for the responses. I don’t have a cat. @Covertgrower I do move plants around and have wondered if I have too much air blowing on them? Seemed to twist some leaves. The tent fans I have barely blow any air, so I have a couple bigger fans in there. @Carol4486 I was looking at your setup, what kind of fans do you have mounted in your tent? They look much bigger than mine. I’ve been checking other journals, but will need to interact more. @Bulldognuts noticed you just ended a nice grow. Hoping for half your luck.

@Missiles all of them had orange spots due to too much Epsom salts. I immediately transplanted from 2 gal to 7 gal when I realized that. Have not added any nutes since adding only once when in 2 gal pots, 10 days ago. I’m going to get a magnifying glass and try to scour the plants for critters. Everywhere I look appears clean though.

Is that the plant closest to that fan on the floor? Also is it the one where your ph was

The brown spots your referring to may have come from a ph swing. And definitely with that soil and your ppms that high I wouldn’t feed for a while. Just straight ph water.

Kinda looks like leaf miners…

They are just 8 inch fans from menards I zip tied them to each corner pole. Keeping the whole tent shaking and they will adjust as they grow

 It looks to me like too much playtime with your plants! When I look close at the edges where it’s been tore up it looks like it healed along time ago in the plant world like a week ago. Looks to me like they were damaged when they were small and they’ve just been continuing growing.I have pictures of mine with the same tore up leaves from the wind moving them against the pot and spinning the plants them rubbing together. As far as the discolored leaves Again looks like a old damage to me…BUT… that being said .That doesn’t mean you don’t have bugs or a nutrient problem. That’s just what the damage looks like to me in the Pictures.
Growing Weed is like a bad haircut wait a week!

Update 4/13/20:
Soil: FFOF w/ 20% worm castings and 20% perlite
4x5x80 split tent, recently opened other side for this grow
Exhaust: 6” affinity fan, with filter
Lighting: HLG 550 V2
Nutrients: Roots Organics

Things are looking okay, even though I’ve screwed up more than once. @Happilyretired lol I may have been playing too much cuz I haven’t found any bugs/mites. I just realized I was calibrating my Ph meter incorrectly. Sent for more solution, so this last water was done using one of those cheap graphs.

I’ll know numbers on next water, but have questions. Between 5 plants, ppm’s are 1333 to 2831. One plant went from 3500 to 1333 in 4 days… is this normal or maybe my ppm pen off? Another went from 1945 ppm’s to 2831 ppm’s?

Should I start nutrients on plant with 1333 ppm’s? Is the nut I have pictured here okay for use as cal-mag? Shall I give all nuts listed on package, at reduced amount, for that one plant?

Also, I think I’m almost ready to start flower? They are about 13” at highest. Maybe one more week?

Is the 1300 ppm runoff? I figure you could probably give at least one more good watering and check the runoff on that to be sure. If plants aren’t screaming for nutes it’s not going to throw you into a deficiency to wait another watering. Plants look mature enough to flower anytime you want. Hard to tell how much room you have there, but from looks of space I would probably get them flowering soon.

I would agree wait until another round of watering to check run off and if one plant is going Down past 1300 then feed it. Follow the feed advice of your nutrients but also ppm check your nutrients before you give it to the plants.
Good airflow in there tens looking good and plants prove it

Yes 1300 ppm at runoff. Sounds good. I opened the other side of tent, only 1’x4’, for fan space. 4’x4’ is tight for 5 plants, so will switch after next water. Thanks.

Thanks @Nicky These are dry nuts to add to soil, so can’t check ppm before applying? Appreciate the help.

I am interested in what you were doing as far as dry nutrients. That’s what I wanted to use on my last year’s outdoor… I couldn’t find any information from anybody anywhere. (Before I found this forum)That being said… If it were me… I would ASSUME that when your number drops below 1300 that all of the Nutrients in the soil or amended nutrients have mostly depleted or been watered through … As you water it over a period of time nutrients are dissolving from the top and running down to the roots so your numbers are going to be high for a while and then drop. now if one plant the numbers are dropping faster than another I would make another assumption, All plants are not created equal some might need more nutrients one week than another also if you see one of your plants looks a little more Droopy than the rest So you might give it a little more water… I don’t know but I would certainly like to hear more comments!.. As far as should you feed that one plant  …I would probably feed all of them vedge nutrients now then give them straight water The rest of the week and then start bloom nutrients! That’s just me.
I also think you should flip to Your 12-12 schedule for flower,Remember it’s not how tall they get it’s how wide! Your tents fairly full now remember they’re going to double in size

Here is some numbers from my plants that I took after a feeding. You will notice they seem very high and drastically different from plant to plant.

I don’t think you will be able to get more steady numbers because you’re soil it is not neutral it is constantly decomposing so you’re ppm is always going to run higher plus it will retain a lot of nutrients as it flows through unlike Coco. I think that the goal here when growing in soil is to learn to read your plant not the runoff.

I got the calibration liquids and watered today. As stated, I was calibrating incorrectly. Numbers are as follows for 4/15/20.

Plant: Ph In: Ph Out: Ppm’s:
#1. 7.2 6.17 1388 (2153 on 4/11)
#2. 7.0 6.16 1600 (2831 on 4/11)
#3. 7.2 6.38 1731 (2230 on 4/11)
#4. 7.2 6.13 1302 (1333 on 4/11)
#5. 7.0 6.00. 1605 (2377 on 4/11) Switching to flower today. I have not added any nuts yet, nor Epsom since I screwed that up a few weeks back. My questions are shall I go straight to the flower nuts, starting at half the amount? Should I start the Epsom then also? Should I try to add nuts now, top dress, and add a little water to get nuts moving as they take time, or just wait til next water? With these ph numbers, what should I water at? Not sure where I read it, but thought I read where you shouldn’t water with Ph over 7.0? I’m a little weary of the dry nuts due to my inexperience and the fact it seems one needs to know their plants better. I liked the idea that they are organic and don’t require mixing with water. @Happilyretired you had inquired in post above. They are Roots Organics. There is a pic in one of my first posts. Appreciate all the help on this site.
