Total Newbie First Grow

Yup yup… I think the highest I ever measured (in ffof soil) was like 2200. It scared me at first ofcourse and growth was light green which is why I did a runoff. I continued to monitor and I even did a small 5 gal flush but sure enough it came down over the next weeks. In closing don’t sweat it until it shows itself is all I’m saying. Oh and I also added worm castings in the past to ffof which I now know is unnecessary. Keep it as a soil amendment which can be topped later.

Thanks @LoCoRock. Do you mean adding the worm castings with more soil to top off the current soil, at a later date?

Pretty much just mixed in to the topsoil at a later date l. Oh man I just look s back it’s been 10 days how are the little guys, did they go under the big light yet? Pics??

This is day 12 from sprout. I have not gone to bigger tent/lights yet. Was thinking I would water once more today, let dry out, then transplant. The one I did yesterday didn’t have a lot of root growth, so would like to see them mature a little more.

They look great for 12 days old definitely chugging along no doubt. Trunks don’t look lanky, even growth, they are happy with whatever you chose to do for light.

You can slip them clear Solo cups into red Solo cups that’s the whole idea behind that. So you can see your root growth to judge, I don’t go that route but many do.

Ahh, never thought about that. I didn’t think about using the clear until I saw where someone said the roots don’t like the light exposure. Thanks.

Today is day 16 from sprout. Transplanted them all yesterday into 2 gal pots, and put them in the 4x4 tent with bigger grow light, HLG 550 V2. @dbrn32 would love your input on lighting. It is currently on about 50% power, 42 inches from plants. When and how do I increase power, as well as lower distance from plants? I want to avoid stretching also. Feels like I’m starting over regulating temp/humidity. Have the ac affinity fan and it sucks the moisture out of the tent. They seem to be happy though. I do plan to top them so they don’t get too tall and some LST, but nothing crazy for my first grow. I’m thinking these are still aa little early? What about LST? My ph out is between 6.2 - 6.45 with fresh soil. Watered at 6.5. Any suggestions on Ph in for next water? Ppms were very high, but believe it was due to new soil and addition of Epsom salt. Any input is appreciated. I would not have a clue if not for this site! @MattyBear @LoCoRock @Bulldognuts @Nicky. Ahhhh, so many questions! Thanks!

This is an amazing video everyone needs to understand.
You should be able to start at 19:30 and go from there to better understand what your asking and the answers to this plus more questions.
I’ve had to watch it multiple times.

I have the T6 so I hear you, best thing to do is set your control up appropriately and get a good ultrasonic humidifier, amazon has a 6L one it foggs its amazing will give you 24Hr at the bare minimum.

Ever try FIM’ing? It’s what I would suggest you get 4 tops rather than 2 and it’s less stressful. You should have to Low stress train much if you FIM or top but you can it may just slow down your growth but you have a photo so you can just veg a bit longer to get the desired shape before stretch.
Keep your PH between 6.4-6.8, let it wander a bit it’s healthy but if you want to stick to one number then 6.5
As long as your run off, your in soil here I assume because of the oh numbers you put up, sits around 6.2 6.5

Oh and my suggestion was list your ppm and PH here so we can watch it and you have a log.

Keep your ppm’s high if your not burning the tips, let them feed and push them to promote growth

Oh no, things seemed to be going well til I saw this today. Transplanted 3 days ago in FFOF soil

with added Epsom salt and Roots Organics Oreganism for root growth. Kept HLG 550V2 light at 50%, 42”. Ph was between 6.15-6.45, and ppms between 1731-3315. The one leaf was against the handle of the pot. Could it be that? The other plant is developing spots. I looked at the chart and resembles the one with calcium. I do use city water that I let sit for a couple days. They are def not overwatered. I sprayed base of plants today as was dry, and plan to water when they wake up later. Tagging some folks that have been helpful. @merlin44 @dbrn32 @Bulldognuts @MattyBear @Nicky.

I did review the video. Yeah, think it would take a few more. What I did get from it was that younger plants can withstand a lot more light than thought. As far as distancing and appropriate lighting, almost appears you need the measuring device for precise numbers. I have never grown weed, so not familiar with doing any of the techniques. I really only wanted 4 plants, but ended with 5, so will be crowded if a decent grow. I have watched videos and they do some crazy stuff with plants. I may try fimming a couple.

FIM’ing is amazing.
I use a LUX app on my phone and an online lux to PPFD calculator, you need to use the correct setting for your light type (think 3000k, burple etc), to adjust my lights.

It may have been the pot, it’s really not a major issue just keep an eye on it plants never look perfect. Look at mine because I missed some cal mag early on and the color never recovers.

It’s still healthy now tho

Man I remember when my room looked that clean… So nice

Brown spots on your leaves are probably caused from getting water on the leaves with the lights on. Spots in the pictures you posted seem random also one of the pictures you posted shows where you got water droplets on the leaf. As far as your pH numbers is that in Water going in or runoff?

Hi all, hoping to get some advice. Today is day 28. FFOF soil with worm castings; Transplanted 3/12 to 2 gal pots. Grow area 4’x4’ tent. 6” affinity fan and filter set up, with the HLG 550 V2 light. Light is now at 34” (was 36 before growth) at 3/4 power. Overall I think they look pretty good. However, noticing more of these type spots.

Added first time nuts on 3/19 as per week 2 of bottom chart, at a reduced amount as I’ve seen recommended for first time nutrients. Have had to water every 3 days with Epsom salt, 3//22, 3/25. Nutrient Schedule calls for week off, then week four of veg nuts. Should I be adding nutrients sooner as I would have watered with Epsom 4-5 times with no nutrients. Also, I know these schedules are generic, but how should I add nutrients after week 4 when schedule goes to bloom and I’m still in veg.
3/25. Ph out is between 6.34-6:57. Ppms 2500-3500 due to Epsom.

Any thoughts, info or ideas are most welcome.

You can definitely back off of the Epsom salts. If you’re not treating for a deficiency a small amount once every week or two is plenty for large mature plants.

Your soils rich, don’t feed at all until your ppm’s are at like 1400,
Like said above your giving tons of nutrients your soil doesn’t need. And your risking salt lockout, of toxicity

Are you sure ppm’s are from epsom salt. Your ppm’s would be high in FFOF, you shouldn’t need to feed yet.

Okay since my last post 9 days ago I transplanted my plants from 2 gal to7 gal pots with FFOF, perlite and some worm castings. Now 38 day old. Ph between 6.3 and 6.5, with one at 7.00. Ppm’s between 2100-2400. HLG550 Rspec at 32-36 inches, 3/4 power. I misread my notes, so Epsom was def the problem. They seem to be doing okay, but now a few plants are developing holes in the leaves. It’s like I can see where the leaves start to split where the ‘veins’ are, then the leaves create holes. A few plants have that.

I really appreciate the help on this site, and look forward to hearing from you. @Bulldognuts @Nicky @dbrn32 @Happilyretired @MattyBear @LoCoRock.

Probably bug damage. Look close with magnifying glass. Be sure to check under leaves and all inconspicuous areas.
