Just had a quick question that I was wondering about.
So everyday I examine my girls through my top to bottom multiple times a day to avoid any mold, bugs, mildew, etc.
Well while I was examining I noticed how tightly the nodes were packed together. It’s about 3 nodes per inch on some plants. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining. But does anyone know why this happens or if there are any pro’s/cons to having tightly stacked nodes?
Thanks for your time and energy!
Much appreciated, Stay Peaceful!
Sf4000 about 18 inches away from the canopy. I’m currently growing Durban Poison, Grand Daddy Purp, And NYC Diesel. All of them have really tightly packed nodes. Granted it is 2 weeks maximum for them but even on my one NYC Diesel that got stressed out severely and is as big as the 2 weeks but is around 2 months old has tightly packed nodes. 3 different genetics. 2 being autoflower and 1 feminized.
Not looking for a direct answer just what COULD cause it and is it a good thing or bad thing. Pros and cons.
I believe you did as well too.
And Way ahead of you on the journal. Lol. I’ve been logging most of everything since the day I began germination. But I’m glad I just got confirmation that what I’m doing with the journal is good instead of just meh. Thank you!
Those plants are babies my friend. Those nodes are going to grow apart. Nodal spacing varies from strain to strain anyway. Some plants are super leggy and will produce golf ball sized buds that are spaced apart on their slender branches. Other plants might have thick branches with short spacing in between the nodes… I’ve had a few plants that I’ve compared to cabbage because they were so leafy with short nodal spacing… These kind of plants are awesome IMO. You might have to do a little extra, strategic, defoliation, for airflow and light reasons, but this is how you wind up with 1-2 ft colas that look like a solid bud
Right on. I thought that might be a factor but some of my other plants didn’t grow up like that though and I’ve never had such tight babies before. But if you think it’s not a bad thing that’s np at all.
I personally don’t mind it, just wanting to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong since it’s out of the ordinary for me.
Could them also bring 100% indica be a factor? I know they usually grow smaller and bulkier compared to sativa.
I want to say yes that the plant being 100% indica could play a factor. I can’t say with confidence though that all indicas are squat. Once again though, these are babies… It’ll be a couple more weeks before you start to really see what the plants going to look like. I’ve even started topping plants (photos only) at this height… A couple of years back, I gave a LA Confidential 32 colas. She was shaped like an upside down pyramid. I started topping her when she was about the height of your plants… She had 3 closely spaced nodes… As soon as the new growth reached another node I’d top them again.
Whew. I’m glad it’s just that they’re babies rather than super stunted or something like that. Thank you!
How long did you veg for? And how much yield did you get? I’m wanting to do something similar except if I can tie them down one step further and let them grow taller than normal. Basically an extended veg state in doors and then put them outside to do a full life cycle outdoors. I just wanna see yield vs potency vs time.
I’ve been at this 4 years… I don’t know shit really… I’ll say this, genetics, genetics, genetics…
I understand you’re looking to maximize your efforts… Some of it is out of your hands… Every bean you pop is going to be different from the other beans in that same pack! Not all breeders are equal! The amount of soil that the plant is in can play a huge factor in the size of the plant, or not… Some plants, even if you put them in 10 gallons won’t grow over 24"s. Potency is also a genetics thing… I’ve grown multiple beans from the same pack and came out with varying potencies and appearances, despite the light, feeding schedule, airflow, etc being exactly the same. As a general rule, the longer you veg, the bigger the plant… I am still experimenting with veg times… I don’t know if there’s an “ideal” time to send them to flower… I live in an apt. so I don’t grow outside… I have recently starting putting plants out on my balcony 1-2 weeks before harvest. It really seems to bring out the terps so I’m assuming the plants dig it
Right on man. They probably love the fresh air and the breeze. No matter how experienced you are you can always learn more. Just think about the person who knew everything 10 years ago. Well new methods/techniques have come around since then so obviously there was more to learn ya know? That’s the way I view it at least. Always room for more education.
I mainly want to see what way is the best style to grow for me. Like should I do all feminized and grow them normal life cycle and train them to maximize yield and potency and get two harvest a year? Or do I extend the veg time and let nature take it’s course outside and get some monster trees once a year.
Do I do 6 auto 6 fem? All auto? Ya know? Just trying to feel out what will give me best yield without sacrificing potency. I’m new so I still have all the kinks and what not to work out. I know a lot of factors come into play. Lights, air flow, humidity, nutrients, how many plants per light etc. but what has worked best for you? I can grow up to 12.
Hey buddy, how you been? I see you made some upgrades to the laundry room. Diggin the lower lights on swivel. I have been meaning to add 4 to my tent and haven’t done it yet. Not sure if I ever showed you the final on my DurbanxC99. Came out incredible.
You caught the part about me having been at this for 4 years and not knowing shit? I’m a bit more limited than 12 at a time… Not just because of local laws but because of space. I live in a 1 bdrm apt. I am currently doing a rotational grow of sorts… I use 2 different closets and my former laundry room… I just recently grew my 1st autos… Pretty disappointed in the yield but the time frame is nice and Fast Buds genetics are good. I will also make this point. Trimming weed sucks. I’m trying to get to where I’m harvesting 2 plants every 2 months. That way I only have to trim a couple plants at a time.
I’m trying to space out when my harvest will hopefully happen by having each strain about a week apart. Im sorry you can’t grow more. I got “lucky” and my basement flooded so I got a referbrished basement and I figured why not start growing with it.
I’m afraid I’m going to expect so much from autos and then walk away with little to nothing. Because that’s 80% of my crop right now. Lol.
I hope you figure out some ways to maximize your yield or potency or both so you get more or it lasts longer.
@Bonjoyle I’ve been around, I’ve only been posting on one thread these days(let’s see your buds right now). Good to see your still here as well. Actually the laundry room is no longer a laundry room. My washer/dryer both died. I replaced them with portable versions and moved them next to the kitchen freeing up the “laundry room”.
I’ve kinda fallen down a rabbit hole haha! I recently purchased a portable AC so I can control the temps in there.
I mean I’m far from professional but it looks pretty good to me! I always think any plant you have could always be busier but that’s just me. I love something you could hug if you want to. Lol.
