So, I recently trimmed my mini-bushes. I originally thought I had powdery mildew, so I sprayed them with a peroxide-water (1 cup peroxide to 1 liter of water) mix. Well, as I’m trimming, I see this tiny little tan bug crawling on the leaves. Unfortunately I have no pictures of it as it was pretty much microscopic. What are they and what can I do? I read 1 cup vegetable oil mixed with a small amount mild soap, in 1 gallon of water would help. Is this true?
I would suggest Captain Jack’s Dead Bug. It is safe for all stages of growing, and will kill most pests. They offer ready to use, and mix it yourself, which is cheaper.
Here’s the ready to use:
@Brokexnxcyde It’s most likely aphid if it was spider mites you wouldn’t be able to see them with out useing a jewelry loop
The issue is I’m low on money right now and was looking for a cheap way to do it. But I might just buy this next Thursday.
How dangerous are aphids? I just don’t want my hard work to fail over a big, lol.
@Brokexnxcyde There not as bad as the mites if you can see them go over plants and smash them and use neem oil if not in flower and do as @Newt said and treatoe you can also get lady bug’s there pretty cheap
Ive tried all chemical remedies and found the most efficient cure is irder ladybugs. They will eat everything that moves. You can even buy hosing and food for them.they will reproduce and we move ours from tent to ent and no more bugs and they dont crap in your buds causing bud rot
If the plants are in veg, and you want the bastards dead, Hot Shot pest strips kill them all… spider mites, thrips, aphids. Now this is a nasty organophosphate pesticide. I wouldn’t recommend using it in flower, but that’s up to you. Turn of fans and exhaust in your tent, place a strip in the tent, close it up, and wait 24 hours. In 24 hours, all pests, including any eggs are dead. I found this is the only sure fire method of getting rid of these pests, without multiple applications of other chemicals… after 24 hours, there will be no pest left alive.
So, one is in flower, one is about to flower, and the other just came of seedling. I’m going to look up Ladybugs near me because I think that would be the most organic option.
I just found a mite on mine, im using 1/4 cup milk, 5ml rubbing alcohol and 2 drops of dish soap , shaken up in a gallon jug. Make sure to get under all the leaves…Used it last grow. It works but you gotta keep up with it… my mistake this grow is i wasnt being preventative. Lesson learned lol
At lights out, dont burn your leaves
The eggs are still there. If using wait till eggs hatch and die before removing. In my opinion if taken out before this when the eggs hatch then mature into adult egg layers. The eggs of the offspring from them will be resistant to the no pest strip.
I have read in order to eradicate with them. Overload like put 4 in a 2x4 tent run as normal leave in for about 2 weeks or more.
I have an article that leads me to believe there is no residual left after removed for a period of time. I don’t know if it is ok to post it. If so I will just @ me. Then you can decide. It is a government site i think. Or something like that.
I also should add follow lable instructions. The above post don’t do that. If in contact more than 4 hours it is my understanding you could get sick. It is called dichlorvos poisoning again it is my understanding that it won’t kill you but it will make you sick as heck.
Ladybugs are cheap I buy 1500 at a time for around $20 you probably dont need that many. Captain jacks dead bug for just about every kind of bug. If they’re aphids they can be hard to eliminate entirely with poisons. Takes a lot of squishing too. Mosquito bits and sticky traps for fungus gnats.
@DRsDank this particular pesticide is unique as it acts as a fumigant, as opposed to a contact pesticide. It will penetrate eggs and render them sterile. The vapor that the strips release is heavier than air, so the should be hung above the plants in a tent. Again, I reiterate, this is a nasty chemical. I did pest control for 15 years, and dichlorvos was the only chemical that had a skull and crossbones on the label. All the other chemicals just had a standard warning label. You are correct in the fact that this product leaves no residue behind. It breaks down fairly quickly.
I’ve had spider mites in my tent before, used 2 strips in a 4x4 for 24 hours, and completely rid the tent of the little buggers. No follow up treatment was necessary, as the eggs are rendered sterile.
There are people that use pesticides wrong. Even this one. That is where we get super bugs. They had to change some things with nps a while back. That is why we have no pest strips 2.
I get a family of ladybugs in my house every spring. I leave them alone to do their thing.
Loved those little things. Last summer was so humid and my space had fungus gnats. I found a little garden shop that sells 500 for $8.00. Better than sticky traps and I turn about 50 at a time loose
