Hey y’all! After reading some posts in the form I think I have the beginnings of a spider mite infestation. They’re itty bitty tiny little white specks and since I’ve started noticing them about a week ago my leaves are starting to look small watches on the top almost like variegation. So based on what I’ve read I’ll order some of that Jack’s dead bugs stuff asap. Any other suggestions? And won’t be able to post a picture for a few hours but again based on what I’ve read I’m pretty sure it’s spider mites. I think the culprit is the fact that I put it outside a few times over the past 2 weeks.
Look at the undersides of the leaves. If it’s mites you should see tiny, tiny black spots on the underside of them and you might be able to see them move.
If there’s webbing anywhere that’s a bad sign too. They will like wrap a leaf instead of like a spiders web.
Pics would help.
welcome to the community, do you have any pics?
edit @Tylersays beat me to the pic question
Also please allow me to kill two birds with one post…
You’ll notice that first leaf only has 3 leaves. Is that because she’s bigger and isn’t getting enough light with that 600? It’s about 12" from the top of the canopy. My Diablo is in the mail…
Yeah - those are mites
Use the dead bug spray and glove up and put on long sleeves
just before lights out DRENCH every leaf and makes ure you cover the top and underside of them. I sprayed mine down then took my gloved hands and gently rand every shoot and leaf through my hands several times over.
You gotta do it every night or two MAX for a week at least to finally kill them for good.
I read somewhere that they can adapt to a poison making it less effective on the next generation so I switched back and forth between CJDB and Garden Safe mite spray.
It can be done but it’s tough and you need to start ASAP like tonight if you can.
Best of Luck to you!!
*3 prong leaves are common on early growth, not a problem.
@Tylersays @Mefis and others… Is it ok to use the Captain Jacks Super Soap I see standing here at Home Depot? Legit wasn’t able to sleep last night because I won’t get the Bug kind until Tuesday and she’s my one and only plant
@Never_Legendary I’m no so good on that but I thinking for used now mix water, peroxide water, and dish detergent I’m no sure if is like that but here maybe they can help us
@MrPeat @oldmarine @Caligurl @Covertgrower @Hellraiser @BobbyDigital
They had us cover
If it’s a treatment for mites get it and get started ASAP.
There are natural remedies people use but ultimately a lot of that is just driving the pests somewhere else and not killing them.
Some things deserve to die.
Any mite treatment you can get on there the quicker the better
Again using 2 different treatments is a good thing!
At this point (in veg) use whatever it takes. Later in the grow (in flower) you don’t want use anything that leaves a residue. CJDB is your best bet all through the grow…
Capon Jacks Dead Bug is what I would use and maybe alternate with Lost Coast Plant Therapy. Captn Jacks doesn’t work for aphids but I don’t see aphids. I also use a Dr. Bronners natural Castile soap with water and add a few drops of peppermint oil. It also does help to alternate… one week of treatment A, a few days off and treatment B. Also be very careful when entering your tent after you’ve been outdoors or in a different tent as they like to hitch hike!
Yeah I’d use captain jacks if I had spider mites in flowering.
@Tylersays @Caligurl @Hellraiser @oldmarine any reason I should be treating 15m before lights out?
I don’t get it. I spray my plants a few times a day for a few days if I see a bug. I don’t care about anything other than having zero bugs. If it adversely my plants, I haven’t noticed.
I believe it comes from the mistaken belief that water droplets negatively impact the leaves. I don’t believe this and use foliar sprays and feeds as a routine part of my grows. Again, if it has a negative impact on my plants, I haven’t noticed…
That’s exactly what I wanted to hear thank you! I was concerned because today is treatment day and I also had to install my new HLG Diablo and was worried.
I’ve always heard that the moisture droplets on leaves under the bright lights CAN cause leaf burn. Not a guarantee it will but it COULD happen.
There’s articles all over the net about light burn through water droplets on plants.
I prefer to err on the side of caution - this ain’t a tomato! This plant will potentially keep me from spending 1k on the black market…worth the extra caution to me!
I can tell you first hand that it will most definitely harm the leaves. I would think 15 minutes would be fine though…
Well, eff… I know this is true for my roses but here’s my issue. My lights are scheduled to go off at midnight and back on at 6:00 a.m. clearly I’m being lazy by not wanting to get back up at 11:45 p.m. or 5:45 a.m. but I wanted to treat as soon as possible and not confuse Gigi by turning on and off lights trying to treat at weird hours. I also feel like I’m complicating this far more than I need to. Newbie probs
A lot of factors in the burned leaves theory. Too much heat and light intensity plays a big part. In the only study I’ve seen on the subject, water droplets were replaced with glass beads. The water would evaporate before any damage could appear.
If you place your hand at the level of the top of the plant and it feels hot, that’s bad for your plant, water droplets or not. If the temperature is too high in the tent, that’s bad for your plant, water droplets or not.
Another argument against foliar sprays is mold and mildew. Again, if the conditions are right for mold or mildew, you’re gonna get mold or mildew.
I believe people are depriving themselves of another method of cultivation. Foliar feeds can immediately address deficiency. Foliar treatment for insects is immediately effective when the insects are treated.
I can confirm spraying certain things during lights on can kill plants… neem oil is absolutely capable of going so. I’ve sprayed lights on had no issues a couple times then there was this one time it killed 8 of my plants. From that experience i learned spray at lights off take no chances! Also if I was your shoes with your lighting schedule I would just cut lights early one day and spray then adjust lighting schedule for the rest of veg so you can properly treat again if needed. You could always change it back down the road, one short or long day isn’t really going to hurt you.
