Nice looking plants and the shaping is :+1:. Curious if you topped above the 4 th node or 5th then kept a lower node and trimmed the rest to get that shape? Want to try this on a future auto.

I let them get 5 nodes, trim the bottom one as they are usually a bit weak, kept node 2 and 3 , topped above 3rd node. You can clone the tops and they do pretty good, even keep symmetrical nodes instead of staggered like most clones. I train them flat with plant staples and secure branches to the cages with soft wire. Here’s some from last grow for reference.

Thanks. I am always curious as to what people do to shape their plants.

@Growdoc @Bonjoyle Are you guys MainLining or is it ManiFolding? Easy? Difficult? Photos? Autos? Could I pull it off?

Based on what I understand main vs mani, I manifold. I keep several nodes below the top. Sometimes I will top at 7, cut off 1, 2 & 3 and keep 4 5 6 and the split at 7 where I topped. This gives me 8 mains and then I will top those. My overall cola count is in the high 20’s low 30’s.

@ShureGreen I use a hybrid, closer to Nebulas version but YES you can do it, you can do it all night lonnnnng! Lol it’s stupid simple and doesn’t add much to veg time. I top above third node once they have 5 or you can go to 6 nodes, top above third and clone the tops and they will have even spaced nodes like a seed would! So, top above third, then trim bottom node as they are usually small and weaker. That leaves two nodes, train this out flat with plant staples and let grow til you can top each branch at first or second node . Two toppings will give you 8 main colas. You can leave first two nodes on each branch and have 16. I use tomato cages cut down to evenly space my branches and secure with plant wire. You can make 8 colas, 12, 16 or however many you choose by topping more. I find 8 full colas are about as many as I want to keep plants easy to move and not get too bushy. Here’s a pic of tomato cages I cut down for this technique.

@ShureGreen those are photos, I don’t top autos but once if at all. With photos, you can keep vegging until they are exactly what you want before you flip them. Current auto run just started, Northern Lights and GDP from ILGM.

I’m doing something different this year. I’ve top\fimmed my plants and started last with landscape staples. I’ve started to get some upward growth and wondering when and how to go about lollipoping from?

@Cody-D Great question. I sort of have that same one.

Ok. So that helps a lot. I am also concerned about exactly how much foliage I’m supposed to have after the 1st Topping and removing the lowest 2 nodes. Because I’ve done that so far, but there is a lot of bush at the main stalk, between the nodes it seems. Or at least that’s how they look. I hope you don’t mind that I did a ss, without your photo and handle of course, for my use as a guide. Is that ok for me to keep? Also, what’s up with all the smoke in pic2? Were you testing the product??? Lol!

Those two did have a lot of growth at the main stems, I trimmed it off several times during the grow. Not sure what caused it, I wasn’t pushing them hard at all…….

Well, I suppose we can be a blurry pair then. Thanks so much for all the info. You’ve no idea how much I appreciate it. So I am going to trim the bushes at the stalk. I did think that was what needed doing but just wasn’t sure.
