Why hello, hello everyone. It’s been quite a while now, actually. My garden has been empty for a couple months shy of a year now—my bed of soil bare and dried up, the soil life probably dead and dried up also. Something I worked hard at for a couple of years, I felt overwhelmed and defeated by my last run of plants. I overdid myself and my soil’s capabilities.
But after about a year hiatus and a killer itch to get things rolling, we are back at it, baby. The wife and myself picked a tried-and-true banger that’s performed well the last couple times it’s been grown, and that’s the Mac1 x CandyLand by ISC (Irvine Seed Co.).
Now there is still a lot to be done. I need to get my bed of soil re-inoculated, re-amended, and rejuvenated with moisture. It probably also needs new life. I doubt the family of worms that previously inhabited this soil still exist, so a couple good buckets of fresh compost should help fix that.
Overall, I’m extremely happy to be back and have that green thumb itch sparked again. I’ve missed my grow fam.
Appreciate ya, man. I dug about 8–10 inches down into the bed today, and there is moisture down in there, so hopefully there are still some down there wiggling around lol.
Out of curiosity, since I haven’t had anything in the bed for a while, what would you recommend as a re-amendment? I have some Roadside and Craft Blend on hand. I was going to order some bokashi to get things moving, as well as do a mushroom compost tea to help get the fungal networks going too.
Craft blend would be my choice. The rest sounds good. Gonna want to get that N back up and cycling. I’d put down some kelp and soy meal (fungal foods), Amend rock dust and gypsum, Top the Bokashi, Then lay down clover. What are you using for the micro heard inoculation? I use Microbe Complete. You could make up JLM if you collect some leaf mold.
A friend has some good cold composted rabbit shit so ill toss that in the top dress as well for N. I should also have some kelp left over somewhere as for microbial inoculation goes just using compost/nature lol i have good rich soil and active compost with strong microbial networks in it on top of the mushroom compost tea i figured it should be enough
Great to hear as my friend has 3 fur rabbits and has tons of crap lmao i also know you can use rabbit fertilizer rite away and it doesn’t have to be composted first
