Good afternoons everyone!!!

Today marks week two, day seven of veg.

Iā€™ve made some changes in this grow as it pertains to nutrient brands and lighting.
First off Iā€™ve switched over to the complete Canna lineup from Remo Nutrients.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Remo. An excellent high quality line. I just wanted to use the Canna line first so thatā€™s what Iā€™m doing.

Also if you remember, this past March I bought two Hortilux SE 600 ceramic HPS systems.

This morning I removed the four COB fixtures that represent 600 watts at the wall with the Hortilux system which also 600 watts.

Hereā€™s the interesting thing about this, with the 630 watt CMH fixture and the Hortilux fixture running , it is cooler by three degrees or so in the tent than when I was using the 630 watt CMH fixture along with the COBā€™s.

Itā€™s also notably brighter with the Hortilux and the CMH than with the CMH and the COB fixtures.
I feel my PAR numbers have increased quite a bit. Since the Hortilux system is utilizing ceramic technology, resin and trichome production should be very good.

Here are a some photos of the lighting fixtures and the plants as of this afternoon.

Iced Grapefruit - three on left side of tent.
White Widow - rear center
Sugar Candy - right rear and middle
OG Kush - right front

Iā€™ll update shortly my friends!!! :grinning::+1:

They look good. I like my CMh system but I have the stuff comeing to build a led so I might use the CMh and the led system I am going to build when all the stuff gets here Iā€™m thinking Iā€™ll keep the CMh in middle and build the led frame so they sit around the CMh light havenā€™t decided as of yet still seeing what I can do for next grow. But it is summer time and I donā€™t grow in summer to much electric draw with pool and central air going

The 315ā€™s are good, but theyā€™re still a little lower on efficacy than your leds will be. May be a different story with off the shelf commercial stuff. These ceramic hps rigs are pretty new, so Iā€™ve definitely been waiting for @Alton66 to fire his up. They definitely look nice, but a lot of their light is outside of the par region. Curious to see how they produce for sure.

Hi ya buddy!

Well I have one of the two fired up anyway.:grinning:

Hereā€™s Hortiluxā€™s graph for their BLUE Metal Halide grow lamp and the one Iā€™m running currently in the unit.

Definitely more usable spectrum is created by this bulb it appears.

@Alton66, I plan on getting a 315w CMH 3100k for my 32Ɨ32 space. Wanted to know if I should get a second color temp bulb for veg and another for flower? Iā€™ve heard the 3100k does well for both but of course I wanna provide the best for my girlsā€¦ $ permitting. Lol. Also, what distances are best from the canopy in veg and flower?

Youā€™re not running the ceramic hps bulb?

Not until flower. Iā€™ll swich bulbs at that time.

@Drillbit

The 630 watt CMH fixture Iā€™m currently running is using both a 3100K and 4000K bulb.
I chose to run both of these at the same time to better cover the usable light spectrum.

I keep the fixture approx. 18 to 20 inches above the canopy.

I would run these two bulbs in order to provide a wider light spectrum for your plants.

Due to design of the light isnā€™t it more like running one light on one side vs the opposite on other side, with a little blending in the middle?

@dbrn32

Yes thatā€™s correct.
The bulbs on the CMH fixture are installed opposite of each other with a gap of approximately one inch between them in the middle of the reflector.

The design of such seems to be pretty standard on most 630 watt single ended bulb setups.

The exception to this is the Dimlux 630 watt CMH fixture which is designed to accommodate each bulb in a side by side reflector.

Hello everyone,

Iā€™m going to give you my impressions of the Eye Hortilux SE 600 Ceramic Grow Grow Light System.

I purchased two of them in March of this year for 435.00 each including shipping.

When I opened the Hortilux branded box the first thing I noticed was how well packaged it was.

The bulb boxes were on the top along with cardboard inserts separating both the 120 volt and 220 volt power cords that are included.

The housing and non detachable ballist are built very well. You can tell the quality of the unit by looking at it.

About the bulbs;

Hereā€™s where I along with many others have issues with Hortilux.

The new Hortilux ā€œā€ Blue ā€œā€ Metal Halide bulb has an impressive usable spectrum.
The problem I had along with quite a few others is that the factory had quality control issues that resulted in many of the bulbs being shipped broken.

Out of the two systems I bought, one of the those bulbs was indeed broken.
I contacted the dealer I bought the systems from and they immediately sent out a replacement.

I received the bulb unbroken and tested it.
It fired and all was well, or so I thought.

Where that replacement bulb was fine and now is being used, the other metal halide bulb all though unbroken, will not fire. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Iā€™ve contacted the dealer and theyā€™re sending me another bulb.
The ceramic HPS bulbs I originally received are both good.

Outside of these quality control issues Iā€™ve found this lighting system very high quality.
The workmanship is obvious.

Would I buy another SE 600 system?
Yes but I will immediately check the viability of the bulbs.

Iā€™ll write another review of the performance of this system once this grow has finished.
Iā€™m including some images of the unit along with the bulbs that are included with the system.
Note the Mc Cree spectrum of each bulb.

Talk to everyone shortly.

Be well.:slightly_smiling_face::+1:

Yup. I guess looking from the outside I was just really curious to see how that ceramic hps performed. It was marketed as a solution to not have to change bulbs from mh to hps right? And if Iā€™m not mistaken, the balance in spectral distribution is suppose to cover the drop in efficacy?

Either way, it sounds like youā€™re looking to make some comparison to it from something else. Itā€™s your stuff and youā€™re obviously free to use it however you want. But Iā€™m wondering what youā€™re looking for and expecting? No offense, but your journals remind me of a friend that plays golf. Every time he has a bad round he buys a new set of clubs lol. I say that in respect to this being the second grow Iā€™ve followed and youā€™ve gone from leds, to led cmh, and now to cmh chps. As a follower, Iā€™m not sure what the basis is for good results vs not so good results?

Perhaps my perspective is different from yours, and even most of the other members. But youā€™ve got some pretty serious coin in just bulbs alone. If it were me, Iā€™d be looking to see exactly what each component will do.

The Hortilux ceramic HPS bulb was designed to give a wider usable spectrum as opposed to being an all in one solution for the HPS user.

Since there is a wider usable spectrum, cannabis resin and trichome production should be similar to plants grown under high quality LED fixtures.

Yes, bulb cost is a factor.

My goal is to have the canopy penetration of HPS with the quality of flowers created by LED.

I kinda feel like Iā€™m busting your balls here lol. But thatā€™s definitely not my intent. I was just looking at your setup thinking you have more money in bulbs than I spent on my last 3 builds. Without going into comparing coverage or intensity levels anyway. From an aspect of money in vs quality and quantity out, tough cost to recoup. Iā€™m definitely on board with spending a little more to get a little more, but we have to consider effectiveness of money weā€™re spending at some point right?
