Three years ago when I started indoor growing seriously I used pH solution and the old faithful color chart. Well… Since then I used mid grade pH pens. My pens are older now and I don’t think very reliable anymore. I have to fall back on the solution and chart till I can afford another pen. Are there any tips or tricks you use when reading these pH charts ??
The best advice anyone here can give you is to buy a new meter. Nothing will ruin a grow faster than not checking your pH with an accurate meter. Those ph charts are good in an emergency only IMO. I wouldn’t risk my grow when I can get a $14 meter
@bob31 I have a yellow ph meter like the one you posted. I am wondering how often do you think I need to calibrate it? It came with two calibration compounds- a 6.8 and a different one, but I don’t know why they send both high and low ph setting compounds. I will order some calibration powder to have on hand, but need to know how often you think these low cost devices need to be done?
I bought the cheapest digital reader and it’s still working. Just make sure it’s calibrated once a week.
will they get that much in a week I check mine once a month.
I check mine every couple of weeks or so. Mine is almost a year old and it’s only off by .1 at the most. My tap water is consistent at 7.2 so if I check it at anything other than that I test it with 7.0 calibration fluid.
I purchased the GH 7.0 standard reference solution and I use it every time I water. It’s just too important to futz around and quibble over a few pennies after all of the time and effort you put in.
I just ordered another pH pen. Yes… It’s a " got to have " item in the grow room. Thanks.
Get the reference solution too, and follow the storage instructions for the electrode. Don’t trust the readings until you KNOW.
AMEN!!! (Adding extra characters bc I have to!)
