Good morning all. I recently found this site after starting and I just can’t stop reading from this site and had to add my grow to the mix. I started with bag seeds. Dropped 2 seeds straight in dirt February 29th just wanted to try and see the difference between dirt start (MG soil about 1 knuckle deep) and straight water germination. Took 7 days to break ground in window sill, didn’t have lights yet. Didn’t really have a plan was just playing with some seeds for my vegetable garden and decided to give it a try. They started growing good so march 14 I decided to drop a few more in water to germinate to see the difference (same bag seeds). They spent 2 days in water before they had about a 1/2" tail then placed in MG soil. They popped through in 4 days. Amazingly every seed I dropped grew. So went and got 2 cheap 4ft t5 light fixtures and 6500k bulbs set 6 to 12" above top leaves currently. Already had a fan so setup everything in a corner in the basement and walled it off. Not totally sealed around the door but its working for now. I burn green down there so I’m not really worried about the smell so no exhaust yet but I have a plan to setup one later. Current space being used is 3’6" w x 7’6" l x 6’6"h. I have 3 seperate areas that I can use for growing down stairs so if all goes well I can keep each area set on different light schedules for each stage of growth. I think that I may have stunted their growth a little bit by it being too cold 60 so I just got a heater to warm it up to 70. Idk ph, humidity, or several other things yet. I have read that most don’t care to use mg soil but that’s what I had available and still on a budget so it’ll have to do for now. Maybe I can get some better soul when I transfer to 5gal buckets. Just went from solo cup to small pots 2 days ago. No nutes yet. The ones that germinated in water seem to be growing a little faster than the first 2 I put straight into soil with about 5 days of growth advantage so far. But I also didn’t have them under lights for first week just in the window sill soo… we will see. I lightly water as needed with tap water. Any additional advice is greatly appreciated. I a believer in use what’s available over spending money you don’t have too especially in the crisis right now. Although I really want some of those good seeds that ILGM has to offer but can’t see spending money on them until I get my grow space 100% ready.
Saw your post last night and got distracted by something. Wanted to Welcome you to ILGM forum.
Thanks y’all are well of knowledge and going to save me $1000s with the info y’all provide. And I am just amazed at some of the grows I see here. Never seen buds this huge before now.
Have you been through and read any grow journals yet. You can learn a lot by just following along from beginning to end. I’ve just finished my third grow and first journal. Starting a journal is a excellent way to keep track of your grow and to get advice with any issues that come up. If you are interested I will tag you on recently finished journal so you can take a look and see everything I learned along the way.
Welcome to the forum!
@Bulldognuts yeah tag me in. I’ve been reading for about a week now on all different things but I started everything wrong before I found this site so now I’m slowly making my adjustments to try to correct my wrong doings. I just don’t have cash flow for the light upgrading yet. I will before flower stage.
I’ve been told by several people that they learned a lot during my grow. I’ve joked that I’m not sure if it’s a compliment or they are saying you screwed up a lot LOL.
As being someone who has told him that it’s more of watching someone go through it all. Success and failures which I think you had more success than anything seeing those buds I’ve always been someone who learns more by example than being told. These grow journals are a wealth of knowledge!!! It’s just a plus that you all are so cool Happy growing
I used an amazon led “blurple “ when I first started my last grow. I replaced it with an HLG 320xl v2 rspec halfway through flower. I ended up with some very decent smoke but lacked in density. I’ll tag you if you like?
Please do
I believe that is do to chlorophyll in new growth. I’ll let more experienced growers comment even further but looks normal to me!
Looks normal to me. @ReconBravo comment is correct. New growth is too young for chlorophyll to have done it’s thing yet. Leaves will darken over time.
Thanks @MidwestGuy @ReconBravo
Got my light timer and humidity monitor today. It’s a little on the cool side but it’s only 40*f outside
64f is a lil low. Do you have a small space heater you could bump temps up a lil? I try to keep mine mid 70’s but sometimes it gets as high as low to mid 80’s. I believe lower temps this early on could stunt growth. I’ll let more experienced people help ya out there. Looking good you have it moving forward Hope your having a safe and great day! Hope I was of some small help
I have a heater but I have to get a extension cord first. my plug is in the ceiling and the cord doesn’t reach so I tried hanging it and it tripped my breaker within a few minutes. Pulls to much juice with the lights. So going to run the cord from another plug on separate breaker.
Out of likes. Be safe whenever running electrical. You definitely don’t want any problems that could lead to light failures or worse fires. I’ll tag a few folks to get their opinion as well. @Oldguy @Dman1969 @Myfriendis410. I tagged you in my new grow as well.
I don’t think you are supposed to hook up an extension cord to a heater. @dbrn32 what’s your opinion?
