@monkman what is the qb that you were talking about earlier on in the post

Hey @Budlov, it is quantum board(leds) and @dbrn32 has his own DIY section on how to get going for cheaper price, remember, keep him tagged in on your questions if you want “good” info.

@monkman ahhh ok im not to sure on the leds tho lol

@Budlov light emitting diodes

@monkman lol i know what they are i ment on using them lol

I seen it now lol, sorry. If you want a good amount of feedback it would probably be best to start a new thread. A couple of the moderators here grow in bigger spaces with 630’s. But I’d prefer we didn’t dirty up @monkman’s thread with it.

Jeez, I don’t know if it’s the age, the bud, or a combination of the two (I think it’s probably that i’m an idiot lol) but I keep coming up with ideas that seem obvious to me after i have them and wonder why I don’t think of them first. One of those was having two tents - one for grow and one for flower which i was going to do two grows initially lol. In talking about doing the veg with the one 4200 bulb is there anything wrong with putting two of them in? Would the plants grow faster? Would that help keep my distance between nodes down? or would i just be wasting money on lights that wouldn’t effect plants much anyway because they can only grow so fast? my main motivation for this is trying to get the veg part done faster. Jeez again, just thought of this lol Or maybe i should have one of each for both veg and flower. I just thought focusing the better component would get better results. @dbrn32 @Gardenguy @SlowOldGuy @Hogmaster

There would be some slight differences in the two bulbs, and the way the plants behave under each. I don’t believe big differences though. The spectral distribution will vary a little from different manufacturers, but here is side by side for general reference.

Normally speaking the 3200 would be easy money decision, and I’d still probably just go that way. But it should also be noted that 3000k 80cri vs 4000k 80cri, and 3000k 90cri vs 4000k 95cri are not Apple’s to apples comparisons either.

my understanding of the deal is, the 3200 is designed for flowering… the 4200 is designed for vegging. but looking at the pics, it looks to me that the 42k has more blues and more reds? this is why i can’t look at these kind of deals and make a good judgement. my brain works great logically, not so well analyzing spatially. @dbrn32 oops btw, both cost same

That’s point i was trying to make. The reason warmer bulb is more popular is because of the ratio of amount of blue light to amount of red light. I assure that both of those bulbs will grow good weed from start to finish.

You have to remember that those graphs are also indefinite and only show how much energy of one wavelength is there in respect to the rest. So its not more red light on 4200k necessarily, but more red as compared to other wavelengths. If that makes sense? It could be the same anount of red light, but less blue and green light and more orange light just the same

one 315w CMH in a 4x4 would do great to feed a 4x4 flower tent with 630w.!

630w of CMH will cover 25-35 sq ft (5x5 or 6x6)
way too much light in veg is a waste.

they have about the same far reds, but less actual red (680’ish on the charts)
much more blue, green, yellow, and orange.!!

i think the 4200k would veg plants better then the 3200k,
they will look healthier and grow faster.!
personally, i would use the 42 until 2-4 wks into flower then swap to the 32.

thanks very much for the info @SlowOldGuy. I will do exactly that. one 42k for veg and two 32k for flower. If i leave huge amount of room 3 or 4ft. between lamp and seedlings can i use the 42k for the two weeks of seedling time?

yes, definitely.!
u will start at 4’ and quickly move closer to 2-3’, within the first few days of growth.!

my clones/seedlings started out under a 400w MH for a while,
now everything veg is under a 135w QB, 4000k, in 5.5 sq ft. (~2’x2.5’)
i can not get my light high enough so the clippings root in a humidity dome with a piece of thin white T-shirt over it.!! LOL

btw, the PAR charts may seem close in comparison, but even the human eye sees the difference,
my 4000k is bright white and the 3000k is noticeably more orange.

u can kinda see the difference in this pic, just now snapped this for you,
a 4k is in the back and 3k up front (top of pic)
