Is that 4x8x6 1/2 if so may as well do 2 630’s it’s the same watts per foot I would think
The 4 fixtures would add a little more flexibility, and probably help keep light intensity levels a little more balnced. 4 fixtures kind of a pain though too.
I assume no longer emitting light. Burn out, blow up, something along those lines.
I think you would be better off getting two 315w fixtures. Vivoson has them with bulb on Amazon for $165 each. That would give you a bigger foot print
hey @HornHead, thanks for the heads up. I am going thru a young lady who is helping me here. She uses sunsystems and it appears that they are twice the cost as i saw the 315 online for 350 and the 615 for 570. She is giving me a break on that price. I have seen vivosun on the pages that i have looked at and I am worried about their quality. No matter what they are selling they are the cheapest posted when they say " if you shopped for this you might like that" kind of thing. I am planning on staying with this project for years which is why I am buying quality when I can identify it. That is why I am buying Secret Jardin tents instead of one of the other “cheaper” other brands. I would have gotten a gorilla tent but they didn’t have my size. A couple years down the road when i am a bit more experienced and my stuff is starting to need replacing i will decide of i want to go cheap or pay the extra to get the quality. Not saying that vivosun is bad quality, just that my experience in life is that i have learned not to buy the cheapest available.
I think you have a good plan both the tents I still have up are both secret jardin ds90 and dr150 they will last a while
I believe @Hogmaster and @Countryboyjvd1971 both use the 630w vivoson lights. Ask them about quality
I hope the Vivosun are good because I just bought 2 w/o bulbs for $120 ea - $8.00 Vivosun code total $224.00
And 2 Phillips 3100K bulbs for $70 ea
So approximately $365 total. Ballasts have 3 years warranty… Not using them yet but will be when the ILGM Seeds get here…
Totally understand buying from local sources…
Wishing us both great grows
gl in yours also @CJ8380. from what i’ve been seeing on the forum for the past ten days, there are many many ways to get what you want at the end. my scare with blurples kinda reinforced the idea of really doing the research. Now i hope that what i lack in talent for growing things can be made up with planning, reading, and help from the gang on here and my support group here in town. one of the main and hardest things to learn is patience, but i knew that from 30 years ago when i did the phototron, doesn’t mean i have more of it… just means that i know it’s an issue LOL.
Hello, i wanted to add onto this question by asking: Im using the same light for a 4x4 tent as well. my question is will i need to add ventilation to my tent because of the heat it puts off or is that not neccessary? the tent is inside my home. what do you recommend?
it is the sunsystem 315 LEC with ballast
Hey @918_BlackWidow420. you won’t need to add ventilation because of heat as this is a pretty cool light system. but you will need ventilation as plants like fresh air and from what i’ve seen having a fan lightly blowing your plants helps your leaves and branches to strengthen up. you do know from the discussion that the 315 is a little too small for a 4x4 tent flowering, it will work for veg though but i’m sure other’s will chime in, i haven’t started my grow yet, still waiting on seeds and i’m a rookie.
You will love it I have the 630 and the Ipower 3100k bulbs work great But with spring coming up the Phillips will drop in price if they have an already but are used 3100 K veggie and flower
LEC is great lighting.!!
QB is also.!
i think CMH needs 40-50 wpsf and QB needs 30-40 wpsf to do good in flower,
the QB will produce 10 wpsf less heat, in a 4x8 it is 320 watts less heat,
something to consider if temps might be an issue.!
as far as spectrum, idk, never used the CMH,
i went from HID to QB and plants r doing better under QB both in veg and flower.!!
wow @SlowOldGuy I didn’t realize the cmh i was going to use was 20% hotter than the qb, thanks for the heads up. but i am set at going with the 630 sunsystem with one 4200 bulb in it for veg and then taking the 4200 out and putting in the two 3200 for flowering. I am very interested in how the UV’s will effect the plant and i suspect we will be able to see it if what i read in other parts of this site is correct about the effects of UV on plants. I will only have to worry about heat in the summer and will put an AC in the window of upstairs. I wanted to grow in the basement, but we have a 67 inch ceiling in there and i wanted more room to play with. only have 77 inch ceiling upstairs but you play the cards your dealt.
Yes it is a 4x8x6 1/2 so you would recommend 2 630 lec over 4 315
What do you think about what Gardenguy said about the 2 630
I responded to him. Not sure what you’re asking me.
hey @Budlov, right under the original answer @dbrn32 said that the 4 would offer you flexibility but can be a hassle, look up above at comment 21.
I would go with the two 630 because each one is made to cover a 4x4 area evenly where as the 315 will do a 3x3 so no matter how you put them in your space you would end up with a corner that doesn’t get as much light. At least that’s how I see it
