I started this around July 4th outdoors and its not getting any taller. Anyone know what the problem might be? Zone 8b for reference.
im no help here but i like it lol
Autos do what autos do, only help I have, not being a smartass but it is true.
Cannabis in general slows to stops gaining height once flowers develop. Which looks to be well on its way into flower. So you shouldn’t expect this plant to be gaining height for some time now.
Autoflowering varieties should grow for roughly 4-5 weeks and start transitioning to flower. This isn’t always the case, but should include most under normal conditions. So that’s kind of your window for getting good plant growth. Anything that disrupts growth during veg phase you’ll pretty much be stuck with.
I currently have a Runtz auto that went from soaking into soil. 2nd try on this one. But I’m indoors. Autos do thier own thing and I’ve never tried them outdoors. Woodrow’s Room!
I second @dbrn32 , you are looking at this Runtz in it’s final size, only excepyion being the buds which will propably swell some.
I grow autos outdoor every summer and if there were similar ones they have always had minimal root growth.
I saw a tip from some tomato grower, he always sifts the medium where he plants the seeds(usually a seedling tray etc) to make sure there is nothing blocking the growth of the tap root in the beginning.
Not sure if that was the case here though, there are a million things that can possibly stunt an autoflower…
Growing nothing but autoflowers I’m very familiar with the stunned Auto. Like @Bentstick said, autos are going to do what they want when they want. Typically we stun them early in germination and seedling stage.
With an auto we unfortunately must be 100% flawless in our procedures like watering (over or under), any type of unnecessary stress, environment, lighting etc.
The first 10 days and transplant is typically when it happens in my personal opinion. Depending on the plant and the stress that’s been applied will determine the how stunned the plant will be.
After the first couple weeks of flower you can rest assure if you’re stunned plant hasn’t gotten any bigger after the stretch she’s not going to. Basically what you see is what you get. It’s unfortunate but one of the consequences of growing a Auto flower.
On the other hand, there is a small bonus of having a midget. I’ve grown several midgets aka (stunted plans) and every single one of them are superseded the potency of its regular normal growing brothers and sisters. I’m talking three to four times better.
Good luck with the rest of your grow
Thanks for your response and insights.
I’m thinking it was lack of sun when I first planted and transplanted as we didn’t see much sun for like 2 weeks.
It was my first time growing outdoors so i wanted to confirm my thinking as to why it didn’t get bigger. So thanks for confirming.
On a funny note, I do not like the word midget as I’m only 4’10". So, when you called my stunted Runtz a midget my husband and I cracked up. Thanks for the laugh.
Unfortunately, I do make people laugh from time to time (it’s a character defect). It was not intentional on the midget crack whatsoever so please accept my sincere apology.
Autoflowers don’t necessarily do that well outside. It’s more of an indoor thing. And even then, they’re incredibly temperamental with little to no room for recovery from stress events.
No offense taken. ![]()
Autos are a whole new way of growing I know after my first fail Autos require 24 hrs of light to push them in veg as long as possible until they start to flower once there in flower switch your lights to 18hrs on 6 hrs. off If you’re growing outside well I will let somebody else take over on that one I live in Texas and everything Rots to bud mold high humidity you have to grow inside for a successful grow here in Texas!
