Strange growth pattern

No longer growing autos. Very unpredictable, using recommended soil still some plants grow strangely. Photos are Runtz autos. Very strange growth almost like a vine.

Hello @Vol.4 I am nowhere near an expert but to me it looks like you don’t have enough lighting for them. That’s why they are stretced out like that reaching for the light. What kind of lights are you using?

Your plant needs more light. Light can be measured with the Photone app, which reads PPFD.

PPFD minimum guidelines are as follows:

Seedling: 300 PPFD
Veg: 600 PPFD
Flower: 800 PPFD

These are under the same lights.

I have had a few stretch like that. They normally fill in pretty well as you go along. I would grab an eye loop and check your leaves out good. Both sides. It looks like you may have a mite or gnat problem there.

Like these?

You are growing pot by Braille , they need a whole load more light.
No shadows is the target.

I have been growing for over fifty years long before we had grow lights. In the sixties & seventies seeds were out of random bags and never seen this. I have more lights than most growers. But thanks for your response. I think people should stop messing with genetics nature created these plants separate for a reason.

That growth form is from the wild ruderallis. They don’t grow dense buds naturally. The calyxes are more like pearls on a string than floral clusters.

We see it come up now and then in the autos. No matter whom made the seeds. Just like an auto that won’t auto every once in a while. They don’t fill in usually. They finish like that too.

Interesting side note, the semi famous old Barney’s seed potent sativa landrace cross named “Grinspoon” after Lester Grinspoon grows exactly like this too. I don’t think they sell it anymore.

Also, didn’t we read ILGM bought out Barney’s? Maybe ILGM will carry the Grinspoon some day thru this consolidation…?

Some growers here love the autos for quick turn around and the wild mix of traits. Something a lil different each run so to speak. They have definitely settled down (from the old lowrider days lol) and are better at autoing. But I could not agree with you more that photos throw you less curve balls and have more consistent performance.

Even the old school strains were crosses that were messed. Otherwise we would all be smoking landrace and hemp. It’s just human nature.

Red flesh apples, purple asparagus, plum/nectarine crosses, seedless grapes as sterile hybrids, citrus that survives greening disease, etc.. glow in the dark petunia.

The world keeps turning and messing. lol

That is why farmers are having issues with contaminated produce too much human interaction. Who needs purple carrots anyway. Didn’t need them then don’t need them now.
