Stem splitting with drill on Chronic Widow

Stem splitting by drilling a hole worked out pretty good. It fills the resin glands more and causes the buds to be pretty sticky. It worked out good on the sour head strain I grew and now I just drillled out the Chronic Widow @raustin . I know you do that too and I just started doing it and I think it works out well. Pics of the sour head buds first and the drilling of the CW.

I can see a change in crystals after one day Ready to harvest soon I was skeptical of doing it but now that I have done the stem split I think it is well worth it, give it a try. @blackthumbbetty @DoobieNoobie @garrigan62 @Poseidon @MAXHeadRoom @PurpNGold74

How far in advance of the harvest do you drill the plant?

So, you just drill and jam a dowel in. Most “splitting” I have seen here is a complete horizontal split kept open by dowels or popsicle sticks.

Back when i did it, i would just drill, no need to stick a dowel in it either, the plant can support itself after it has been drilled and the hole is not going to close back up, so i just choose to leave it open.

I don’t drill or split anymore the stems anymore though

No more than 3 days :v:

I just stick it in there so air don’t get some disease in the open wound but this is my second time and the first time I ever did it I liked the crystals but then again could be the strain or other factors in the grow.

Has anyone taken two or more clones and tried splitting on only some? I’d be interested in a controlled comparison of the two methods but haven’t run across it yet.

Well I read 7-10 days before harvest, some say 4 days before harvest, I drilled that sour head and harvested it 8 days later, it worked out well for me. Some say be careful, you could kill the plant if you screw up. Thru time and experience you find the right technique.

Excellent. I’m glad to hear you can see a difference. I still don’t know if I will do that.
