Started indoors, now moving outside

Hello i have never grown outdoors before. Im on my 3rd grow indoors. I have 3 wedding cake photo period in 3 gallon pots in my 2x4 tent. This grow had taken off much better than the others and i made the decision that my tent will only have room for the two bigger plants. They are 4 1/2 weeks old.

My question is when should i transplant the one going outside from the 3 gallon into its 15 gallon container i have prepared? Also since it will be 5 weeks already and have all summer to veg should i top it a 2nd time? (first topping one week ago)

Beautiful plants , I Usually shoot for about third week of may outside…( East Coast ) at that point no more frost.

I believe you should transplant to it’s final grow container before it goes outside. That will give it time to acclimate to its new home before changing to sun. It will need to acclimate to full sun as well. At least my tomatoes I was growing inside needed to acclimate. Those are some healthy plants. Congratulations

If they’re sexually mature I usually
wait until late May or 1st week of June to put mine out. This year I’m putting mine out around the 21st of May cuz of travel plans.

High,
I usually wait till there is no danger of frost however I have mine outside already this year. I have plastic covers, cut two liter soda bottles, to cover in case of frost.
I top mine a few times and also trim and supercrop too. Produces a lot of weed.
Be patient and be rewarded.

Ive been putting it out in direct sunlight for 3 hours the past few days. Im going to move it out permanently this weekend so i can start training the other two in the tent. In minnesota lows are in the upper 40’s at worst now so it should be ok.
I just dont know how long it takes to fill a 3 gallon pot with roots… at 5 weeks old should i transplant to the 15 gallon now or wait a few weeks?

High,
I put directly into “Mother Earth”. Not familiar with all the transplanting to bigger pots. Heck last year, and agin this year I will put it directly in a 20 gallon pot and let her grow. I have a 20 gallon bag my buddie gave me.

Its because this plant was never meant to be an outdoor plant. Otherwise i would have gone about this differently.

@Solidgold91 i would wait, it should take a while to fill out a 3 gal, I start mine in these small green containers and have slowly gone up one size for the next couple weeks.
Original container

Up one size

The plants have been going since 4/6

@Solidgold91 transplant to final container when taken outdoors and just use myco’s and or a good compost tea and they will be just fine

High,
Nice plants. I am going to use a 20 gal grow bag for one of mine. I put the rest in Mother Earth. I actually put them in a few days ago. Earliest for me. I live in Michigan

Yes its supposed to be 75 and sunny here in north central MN. The weather has really turned around this past week. Good luck on your grow too! Im excited to see this plant in the fall, im used to just an 8 week veg period indoors so this should be fun.

We are getting used to the outdoors right now.

Update. She’s 7 weeks now and fully acclimated to the 20 gallon pot and outdoor weather. Had some chilly nights to slow growth a bit but i expect her to veg for another 12 weeks here in MN.
