Soil vs dwc hydro…

This grow I grew plants in 2 different grow tents to see which process I like best. 6 plants in total . 1 gg4 and 1 runtz in a 2x4 mars hydro with 300 watt led light. I used soil for these two girls and fed them general hydro flora series. I also on the same grow time grew 3 gg4 and 3 runts in a 5x5 with a 800 watt mars hydro led light . In this tent I used 5 gallon buckets in deep water culture hydroponic set up. I am on week 7 flower for both tents and my conclusion is I think I’m gonna go with coco which seems to be a happy middle between the two grow mediums. I’m also gonna switch to jacks because after reading the active ingredients I realized jacks has it all in one so it makes sense why everyone on this forum useit. I’ve really learned a lot from this grow. I’m excited to harvest. As always any insight or maybe some post harvest tips are always much appreciated and I wouldn’t have the skills I have now without this community so truly thanks everyone Processing: C1003B32-0E17-4BC6-95F9-7981780C255C.jpeg...

Love seeing a nice DWC grow. Beautiful buds. :v:

If you like dwc but want to grow in pots then coco is the way to go. Just make sure you read up on how to successfully use coco, is definitely not the same as growing in soil.

You couldn’t have been more right. I switched to coco and this is def my medium of choice from here forward .

Awesome! There are quite a few of us converts here.

Is using the coco hard to maintain for hydroponic ? First go with hydro and this one came with clay pebbles but definitely interested in something better to support the seedlings and that will be best for long term.

Not really. What style of hydroponics are you using? For something like dwc or rdwc depending on the netpot in use you can usually get a small rockwool cube or root riot to support initial stage and then just place the cube in netpot surrounded by hydroton. If you want to do something like ebb & flow or a drip system pots of coco may be better choice.

morning @Aaron1 I use rockwool cubes only in my basket…and a neoprene collar around the plant stalk to keep light out of the tote… :cowboy_hat_face:

It’s the spider farmer dwc system. The pot is a good size the pebbles are good but not for support

Morning. Basket is good size spider farmer dwc hydro system. First go with hydro system so definitely a learning experience just trying to see what would be best and easiest. Tried the rock wool with soil but it didn’t stay wet enough and dried out but with this that will not be an issue. So many options just wanted to see what others are using

yes there are many ways to do DWC… I have been doing my tote method for 6 years … each way has it plus and minus…one thing to remember is that exact numbers are not important in home grows…

If you don’t want to use rockwool take a look at root riot or rapid rooter.

Definitely nice to grow our own and the quality is awesome. Ordered more seed from ilgm so want to be ready these two are the experiments. Will definitely get some rock wool or something to help

I like the rock wool it definitely helps and with this setup it should work out unlike using in regular soil. Just want to make sure I can be setup and ready for the next round lol

That’s why I love this site you all are awesome with the information and so many tips and tricks

in this type of bucket system you will have to watch the nutrient/water level daily… in heavy veg and flower she will take in a gallon each day…your buckets will only hold 2.5 -3 gallons because you need the air gap below the net basket…

Definitely will keep an eye on that. Has a site tube so that is definitely helpful. Nutrients I try and stay on the side of weak so not to burn them. That’s what I’m waiting for when they actually get up and start drinking up all the water and was going to be another question about how much of a gap to leave from bottom of pot
