I am almost at the end of my first grow with Girl Scout Cookies Extreme auto. I am starting a journal now so that my abundance of topics can be consolidated into one journal.
My plant is at 54 days above soil and @Myfriendis410 took a look at a picture of my buds and estimated around another 4 to 5 weeks before harvest. I just noticed some of the pistils on the very top flower of the main cola are starting to turn brown. None of the other pistils anywhere on the plant are showing brown at all. My trichomes look clear still and I know to go by them instead of the pistils but this worries me. I am thinking the top of the plant is going to be ready to harvest way before the rest of it. What do I do in this case? I have read you can harvest in multiple stages but if I cut off the top of the plant when the trichomes indicate it is ready, will the rest of the plant be ok?
The picture of the top of my plant shows main cola and I can’t see any brown pistils in this picture from yesterday but they are definitely there today.
For any of you who haven’t seen any of my posts I am battling a Phosphorous deficiency and possibly Calcium too due to low runoff PH.
My next set of leaves became visible today. Since I turned up my HLG 260 to the halfway mark, the plant has slowed down growing in height and the leaves are getting much bigger. It is now 3" to the top of the plant. Each leaf is exactly 1" long. The sand is only 1/2" top layer to prevent fungus gnats. This is the seedlings 5th day above the soil.
I noticed the cotyledons are a little darker green than the regular leaves. It’s hard to see in the picture but a few of the “fingers” of the leaves have turned upward very slightly. Not all of them, just a few. Clean bill of health? Thanks.
I was looking at pictures of some other seedlings and they seem to have nice thick stems. Mine seem a little thin. When I transplant to a bigger pot I will bury the stem up to the first set of leaves. Is there anything else I can do to thicken up the stem?
How high is the light over the sprouts? Maybe you can go a little lower. Do you have a fan blowing on your sprouts, a little wind at that point helps to strengthen the stems. Looks nice and healthy though.
The light is 24" above the top of the pot so 21" from the top of the plant. I only have the light turned half way up. I think it grew tall at first because I had the light turned all the way down. Since I turned it up to the half way point the plant stopped growing taller and the leaves started growing bigger. Is it too soon to turn the light up a bit more?
I do have a fan in the room mainly to circulate the air and prevent mold since I am running a steam humidifier 24/7. I can see the plant moving slightly from the fan even though it isn’t blowing directly on it.
I’d love to look at your journal. I am still new to the forum, how do I see your journal? I tried searching for Royc journal and it brought up quite a few results but nothing current.
I found it and see that you tagged me. Thanks man. I replied to one of your questions in your grow journal about needing the 12/12 cycle. I haven’t finished reading your journal yet. Did anyone else say you don’t need the 12/12 cycle for autoflowers?
hey put up a pic before you transplant please, I think you may be rushing the transplant
I usually transplant A. when roots come out of drain holes, or 2. when leaves extend over the pot their in. don’t know what others do, but I haven’t lost a transplant yet.
No roots at the bottom hole yet. I was going to transplant now to get the seedling out of the organic soil I bought that stays too wet. I was actually hoping the root ball hadn’t established itself yet because I don’t want to transplant into good soil but still have a mass of bad soil around the roots. Does that make sense? Maybe it won’t matter when the roots grow beyond the old soil mass. I will do whatever you suggest. Thanks.
