Small bubbles on leaves, turn into holes

Hey Gang, I’ve been tracking these issues for weeks now and have not been able to figure out the cause. I’ve posted to a couple other forums all with varying theories but nothing seems to be the fix/cause. I also looked through a bunch of similar titled posts, but none of the issues I saw look like mine.

My leaves are getting these really tiny bubbles. Over time they will slowly turn into a hole in the leaf. Its only on a handful of leaves, varying between the very top of the canopy all throughout to the lowers. It is also occurring on both sides of my plant, closest to my fan and furthest. I’ve got an AC infinity smart controller so I have ample data to look back on. Tried to fix the issue before flipping, but after 8 weeks of veg I decided to flip and deal with the consequences. I’ve got other plants vegging atm.

I’ve got sticky traps and haven’t seen any pests. Undersides of the leaves all seem clean. In my research, I’ve come across a disease, edema, that looks similar, but I can’t find enough examples of it in cannabis to be certain.

For my regiment/environment: I started out in prebuffered coco using technafloras recipe for success. After a finicky start with nutes, I switched to organics a couple weeks before flip, adding my mixture to the bottom of my pot and top dressing. Water is usually pH 6.4-6.6 and my runoff read at 6.4 last check. Been watering 1.5-2 liters every couple days, until I get like a droplet of runoff, but nothing significant.

Photoperiod wedding cake.

Let me know if I left anything out or if you have any ideas. Any help is super appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the foum.

As a start, I suspect nitrogen toxicity given the dark waxy leaves. pH problems often accompany nutrient problems, so understanding your runoff pH and PPM will be important. What soil (brand and type) are you using?

Let’s get some more information from you.

I’m just throwing this out there. I think you may have a pest problem. I would take the preventative route and get some Capt Jack’s Deadbug and spray at lights off (don’t wanna fry your plants). You may also want to cut down on the nitrogen, they are looking darker than usual and kinda waxy.

Dang you’re quick lol

Correction to my previous post now that I see you are in coco.

The correct pH range for coco is 5.8 to 6.2. pH is measured on a log scale, so the difference is significant.

Starting in prebuffered coco (plant was a gift) using some old recipe for success I had laying around. After about a month of messing with the nutes, I switched to soil and organics. Prior to the switch I just watered with plain pH’d water for a few days.

Soil brand and type
Promix HP amended with roots organic worm castings, an organic 4-4-4 from penningtons and a 2-8-4 from Gaia. Smidge extra of perlite.

Cloth 5 gallon

indoor

• Light system and wattage
Viparspectra 1500, 25% power about 12-16" up, receiving 600-700 ppfd on leading tips.

• Temps; Day, Night
Days averages 72 night averages 66, occasionally drops as low as 63 if the heat doesn’t kick on soon enough.

• Humidity; Day, Night
50-60% RH during veg, 40-50% the last week since flip. Have it set on automated triggers so it doesnt swing outside of those ranges much.

• Ventilation system; Yes, No, Size
6" in-line AC infinity w/ carbon filter

The rest of your support ticket info looks fine. I would get your pH corrected, inspect for bugs, and back off of nitrogen containing products for a couple of feedings.

Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate the input. I guess I should note that these bubbles have persisted across both grow mediums.

When I switched to soil, I emptied my pot, made an organics mix, put a few inches in the bottom, packed the sides and topped the pot with it. So the root mass was still in primarily coco, but the pot itself is probably made up of 50% coco and 50% organics at this point.

I haven’t checked my runoff PPM, so I’ll get on that next watering.

As far as pests control, I’ve been using mammoth cannacontrol as a preventative because I have a lot of animals in my house and my previous house plants have been prone to mites. You think I should switch?

Thanks again!

Oh and when I was only doing coco, I was watering with 5.8-6, but I never checked my run off back then.

Since I’m just watering with plain ol’ pH’d water these days, any suggestions for backing off N, or just maybe use something lighter on nitrogen when I do a mid flower top dress?
