Sledgehammer and ppm

So I am using FF trio and there has been a bit of a buzz about using sledgehammer. I haven’t been feeding them a lot of the trio but my ppm is reading around 1800 when I did my last pH watering runoff. So I say to myself that they don’t need any more nutrients because the ppm is high. Would I be safe to assume this? So I know the sledgehammer is for flushing and breaking up the salts. So can you just use sledgehammer as a regular watering or does it have to be a flush? All my girls are doing great so not wanting to fix what is not broken. @bob31 @Countryboyjvd1971 and anyone else that has experience with them. comments welcome.

Thanks

Definitely don’t use it for reg waterings @Smokin_ernie
Some of the mods don’t like the idea of using it at all FYI
I personally use it as directed

Interesting. OK like I say I am not having any issues but curious minds wanted to know.

10/4 I’ll be watching for the responses as well brother
As far as ppm numbers I try to keep mine in range on feeding schedule so as long as your in the given range for the week your on I’d say your good

I personally don’t use fox farm so I won’t be any help but I believe @Wishingilivedina420state uses sledgehammer so he might be able to give you a few pointers?

@Smokin_ernie @Countryboyjvd1971… Hey folks, is there something else you can use to flush. I read someone, maybe not here, they said they mix Epsom salt and for some reason uses it as a flush… Not sure why a salt would remove salt but was curious?

I used Epsom salt on my last grow for one of the plants but have to look through some notes to see what the problem was. I think it was a sulfur problem and pretty sure did a flush with it. @Majiktoker was the one that suggested it maybe you can weigh in on this.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Very true @Sl1 I like your thinking.

I’m a noob too, but I personally see 1800 ppm or more at times but with normal pH and no issues in my grow so I don’t flush just skip a feeding or two until it naturally comes down. I’ve been using Roots Organic Bhudda Grow and Bhudda Bloom plus Rhinoskin and MammothP in FF Ocean Forest, feeding close to full strength, this is the most nutes I’ve used in any Grow and my plants are looking awesome at 5 and 3 weeks flowering.

I dont use sledgehammer lol

I think the idea is that Epsom salt renders some of the salts more soluble and easy to remove when flushing.

I was referring to the Epsom salt that you suggested on my last grow. Sorry for confusion.

Epsom salt is used as a magnesium sulfate product in grows. When you dont have cal mag Epsom salt comes in hand for substituting magnesium and reacts quite quickly in soil (roughly 24 hours is the time you’ll see a positive or negative reaction using Epsom salt)

Have you ever heard of flushing using Epsom salt? Or can you suggest what to use instead of a product like sledgehammer to flush… Besides straight ph’d water? @Majiktoker

I think inhale an auto that’s a eeek from harvest and I never used sledgehammer but I only used trio. It was outside and got lots of rain so …

I don’t flush my plants otherwise id say PhD water, the point of a flush is to rinse any nutrients from the soil

@Zombo, I remember the same post but not who posted it.

I have read it’s best to use just plain ph water
The draw back with that is the amount of water need to properly flush with plain water 3x the pot size so if your using say a 10 gal pot you need to run 30 gallons of ph water though the pot ??! Time consuming if doing more that one or two
I’ve never read or heard flush with water that has Epsom salt added to is ? Not saying it’s wrong or right @Zombo
Epsom salt does have magnesium in it maybe that’s why they recommend it
I try not to flush unless it needed and found that while following ff schedule you need to do recommended flushes ???
Just my experiences and like anything else will be part of my schedule when using their products
