When ido my flush i’m using sledgehammer i have 5 10 gallon fabric pots. Will use recommended dosage of hammer per gallon of water i intend to just use a gallon per pot and then just use about 5 gal of rainwater to flush out the sledgehammer. Does the rainwater need to be PH’D? And does this process seem suitable. How long should i wait to give them nutes. Should i let them recover from the flush (dry out?takes 2 days until i have to water) or fert right after i flush? I ghet about 6 to 8 ounces of water runoff when i add 1gal of water. @Hellraiser @BobbyDigital @Indicanna_Jones @Covertgrower @MO_Grow417 @MeEasy
I would do it the other way around.
This is a pretty simple process that I actually just did two days ago. When using ff if you build up your dose by the 4th week in flowering id suggest flushing. I have tried it both ways and find flushing to be beneficial.
You definitely want to ph the water and don’t feel like you have to flush with any certain amount of water. Just flush until the tds drops to around 700ish give or take.
After flushing you obviously don’t need to water but I dont feed after flushing but make sure you do the next time they are thirsty.
They won’t be stressed from flushing, in fact they really seem to like it in my experience. I have had issues a couple of times with salt build up and locking out nutes.
Are you saying flush with 5 gal of water first then hammer?
If you are using sledgehammer then yes to get a more complete flush. @Indicanna_Jones is talking about not using it I believe and reading ppm or EC with a meter. Either way you choose would work great.
I can’t find the email ff sent to me when I asked them this question and it’s been a few years, my memory sucks but what I’m remembering is sledgehammer if used regularly think it was every 3 weeks but it’s meant to be use to prevent buildup so you mix it and water like normal to about 20-30% runoff then just continue to the next time they are thirsty and feed them… now I recommend calling them tomorrow before you follow my idea, just because I don’t trust my memory but I never have and never would run 5 gallons of water through my soil… ff is not organic but their trio relies on living microbes in your soil to assist in feeding your plants, 5 gallons of water would destroy your living microbes and wash out half of their food, it would take two weeks just to get them back in line to start working again
Just water with the sledgehammer mix @2x your normal watering rate. So if you normally feed a gallon, run 2 gallons thru with the sledgehammer mix. Then just let it dry out as if it was a normal feed. Then continue with your feed schedule
Thanks man thats what i needed to Know!!
I use all FF products and flushed about 3 weeks ago. Ran 2 gallons through each of my girls, fed on normal day 2 days later. They both boomed after. FF nutes leave salt deposits and the Sledgehammer breaks them down and rinses them out. You are essentially flushing out nutes from the soil as well, but this helps to put your runoff numbers back in line if you check them. My runoff TDS was way up before I flushed and it went down to almost exactly what any chart I’ve seen said it should have been at. Just my experience. I haven’t followed the flushing schedule exactly, but it was definitely beneficial. Happy growing!
It doesn’t. Others have you set on the rest.
I’m a little confused why you are flushing the flush? I’ve not seen any info where the sledgehammer needs to be flushed after use. FF (when I spoke with them last year) said nothing (to me) regarding flushing twice. Just flush with sledgehammer and be done with it. That’s how they explained it to me.
There is no wrong way to do it really as long as you get the runoff ppm down to where u like em, that is the ultimate goal. I use a gallon per container, full strength sledgehammer, then two gallons of ph’ed tap water each after sledgehammer sits for approx 20 minutes. That gets mine in line it seems then bc i get it really low, like down to 600 tds, i finally run a last gallon through entire pot of each plant with neuts like its a normal feed.
I’m with @Audiofreak I remember just mixing the sledgehammer and watering to my normal 20% runoff. I never have tested the runoff of soil either though, the poop n other nutrients in the soil is going to throw off the numbers. I don’t know how the hydro n coco rules and methods ended up bleeding over to soil but it has, I don’t even test ph anymore but when I was feeding salts n chemicals I would check and adjust what I put in and let the soil work with it. If there was an issue I’d do a slurry test to get an idea of what was happening and I’d adjust what I put in which could include the sledgehammer flush
Thanks to everyone who respond!! @BobbyDigital @Audiofreak @Poseidon1 @MeEasy @MO_Grow417 @Covertgrower @Borderryan22 @Indicanna_Jones I really appreciate it!! I really should have done this a week ago. I’m 41 days into flower and looking good.
Does not seem like you would have to “flush the flush” but unfortunately there is quite a few ppl on here saying there plants did not like it when sledgehammer was left in there. I myself cannot verify that, was always too afraid to try after what ive read.
I know what sledgehammer is supposed to do but really unnecessary. You can flush your medium with plain water and watch the tds drop.
I agree
but they make blueberry flushing agents! Lol
