Should you mix different soils?

New grower here, only have 2 under my belt. Started getting my pot ready for the next go and realized about a third of the way in after starting to add nuts and such that I didn’t have enough for my 5 gal. bag. So, I have some OF that I could use to finish it off but I’ve read that OF can be hot for seedlings. So, my question is should I just order some more ProMix HP Ready or mix with the OF and don’t add any more nuts for now. I can have new PM soil in a day or two @ most. Looking for advice or any helpful comments.

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

@jskiddsr I would mix what I had, people do say that about ocean Forest being too hot for seedlings but it is never given me a problem, just don’t keep your soil too wet, let the plant drink from a humidity dome for now

You can mix soils, but Promix is not a soil. Soil and Promix have differing pH requirements (soil ideally at 6.5 or Promix ideally at 6.0.) It can lead to nutrient uptake problems.

Avoid any soil that contains time release nutrients (e.g. it may say something like “feeds for 3 months.”) These soils are notorious for nuking your plant with nitrogen and submarining your pH every time you water. Miracle Grow and Vigoro soils are examples of that to be avoided in a cannabis grow. Black Magic, FF soils, and Coast of Maine are good soils.

Think I’m going to wait for my HP to get here tomorrow and use the OF in my next pot. I’m only growing one atm as this is my 1st attempt using a 5 gal. bag. Last time I used grow dots, dynomyco and some recharge as a top spray along with a humidity dome. This is my 1st attempt germinating in the soil, open to ideas or suggestions.

Thanks.

Good idea! Don’t mix soil and hydro mediums, not a good idea! :+1:
