Should I trim or not?

Trying to get a nice even canopy. So 2 main branches didn’t grow as high as the rest, just 2-4 inches shorter. As I’m 1+ weeks into flower, should I cut them (use as clones) or will they thrive and not take away from the others too much? Circled in red.

I’d leave em alone but I’m not a “lollipop” proponent myself. Too time consuming :joy:

My third grow attempt, still trying to find my “style”!
I’d just be happy with buds that get me high:melting_face::rofl:

Nice grow. I would also leave them alone.
Already in flower, so may not be a good candidate for clones.

I’ll be honest, my style is “lazy AF.” I cannot make myself grow any other way. I tried the micromanaging style. I tried the helicopter parent style. I found that total neglect was too far, but “water every now and then” and “remove the leaves when they’re obviously dead” has been going well for me. :joy::rofl:

I can get bud. I‘m batting an average of 1/4 to 1/2lb per plant, depending on how crazy overgrown I let them get. So it turns out lazy is a fine way to grow as long as it doesn’t turn into blatant neglect

Me personally I trim 100% of the time and usually end up with larger nugs especially at the top. Many believe the plant is wasting energy growing fan leaves when it can be focusing on making your buds more potent and larger . At the least I trim all the bottom leaves and leave a few at the top but you need to be confident in you nutrient schedule when you do that

If you have the space, let them grow. I would bend and tie down the tallest ones. They still have a week or more of stretching so the differences will be more pronounced.

That’s what I’m talking about!! I’m not gonna cut anymore, I basically only trimmed new sprouts up to the tips and left the fan leaves this time around. I also switched soils, Foxfarm ocean was screwing with my dry, organic fertilizer (Earth Dust). Biggest good change is I haven’t lost any leaves yet, usually I’m losing a handful every week.

I love using your style myself…. As for clipping…snatch those wasted guys off and clone away. Will be long…ugly but will veg into some nice plants. Pull from flowering plants all the time if she shows super potential.

I might be the only lazier person than @Graysin , I do trim a lot but over all I leave them the heck alone. At this stage, you are fine with letting your bush fill out.

Yeah, I know what I said, lol😀

Friendly question sir, if you trim 100% of the time then how do you know your nugs are bigger? :smirk:

Hell, I just use Kellogg’s Patio Plus. I think a lot of growers are hornswaggled by the whole “mystery soil,” phenomenon.

I just follow the Subcool SuperSoil recipe and use a cement mixer to speed the soil building part. In addition, next year I’m re-using the soil. Not quite believing it will be totally exhausted after one grow. More nitrogen for sure, and some flowering amendments deep in the soil. It’ll work.

I’m also in the lazy group. Add the fact that im running autopots and it really just doesn’t get any lazier…
Here’s a good read about defoliation… just google up “nebula haze defoliation”

That’s what I have been using in my tomato container garden. Now in my first indoor weed garden I am using the same. About 8 bucks for 1 1/2 cubic feet.

I’ve tried different techniques to see any difference but…
Each time (2x) I’ve grown from seed, 3 plants at a time, I get a small tight bush, a stretchy lanky one and one in between! Impossible to try different techniques and get reliable results in my opinion.

That’s the problem. You need to grow 3 plants cut from the same clone mother. Identical genetics. Seeds are like siblings, no two are the exact same. Genetic variability is gonna mess up any experiment you could run on cannabis if you go from multiple seeds. I’ve tried, only meaningful test I was able to run was using identical genetics via cloning first.

Edit to say - I don’t have an opinion really about what does/doesn’t increase bud size/quality, I just wanted to emphasize why that method will never really tell you what you want to know.

I need to find some funding to run all these experiments too! Anyone interested in bud size experiment results send cash to 11234 Weed street, Nuggetvile, Va:joy::rofl:
