Question on trimming

So it’s getting to the point where I’m about to flip the lights to start flowering. But I’m thinking I could probably trim up some of the lower stuff that is starting to grow, but doesn’t look like it’ll become anything worth while. Hoping I could get some help before I trim up too much. Can someone tell me whether they would just trim off these little branches so the plants could focus its energy on the already mature branches on top or just leave them grow?

I think for the most part I trimmed off what these branches would have been on all the other branches when they were a lot smaller already, but left these to grow, but they are staying pretty thin and the nodes are like 4-5” between each node… kinda just want to get rid of them to focus on the top. Is that smart to do so it can just focus on the top right away?

You can trim it up. Won’t hurt anything. I usually wait until after the flower stretch to see what made it to the canopy and what didn’t. I then clean up the bottom 3rd of the plant.

This pic didn’t make it into the original post, but this is the overview of the plants. The top is super thick and I’m not sure those little guys will ever make it up to the top to catch up.

How long is too long before you leave it? Would you trim it to the main branch even if they grew out like 7-8” but stayed small?

If they manage to grow out to receive unobstructed light, they stay. Anything that is buried under the canopy gets cut.

You can definitely thin out some of the fan leaves to open it up. It will allow some lower branches to reach the canopy during the stretch.

Thank you that’s a big help actually. Some of them are like right under the big main fan leaves towards the top, but stayed so dang skinny I was almost about to chop them off tonight when I did a little trimming. I think I’ll wait until a little bit into flower and re assess. I wish I would have worked a little more at training but I got super paranoid when I cracked a couple of the bigger branches trying to tie them down… I even snapped one of the big main cola branches right in the middle completely off and taped it back on… and it continued to grow
Now she’s got a bandaid.

Massage the stem like you’re rolling a booger and the stems will bend over on their own.

Lol I’ll definitely have to try and work them a little each day through flower to try and get them to spread out a little bit. They’re all still pretty bunched together.

If you’re wanting to supercrop bend your plants they tie down easier. Roll the stem back and forth between thumb and first finger and gently squeeze you’ll feel it give then bend in direction you want it. You may get a drop of juice come out it’s ok then by next day they’ll be recovering that’s when I tie them with pipe cleaners to holes in tops of my buckets.

I’m trying what some of the experienced growers are doing this grow, on 21st and 42nd day of flower take off any leaf that doesn’t have a stem showing and any small branches at bottom so plant can concentrate on growing colas. I know that sounds like alot of trimming but I’ve seen it work great. I’ll tag you into my journal, show you mine.
