sorry no pictures - plant is in week 3 and is 10inches tall but there are about 5 main fat fan leaves covering new branching, debating on weather to remove or not ? the pants is Ghost Train Haze #1 (week 3 is really only 1 week in veg) plan on vegging at least another 23 days (total of 30) any more afraid the haze will get too tall )
I pull leaves off all the time if I don’t like where they are on the plant but it would probably be best for your plant to leave them alone for now
Without a picture it is difficult to judge . 10" tall is not very big and you say the fan leaves are covering new branching . I only remove leaves if they are covering new buds or are dead or dying . Those big fan leaves are helping the plant absorb light and grow bigger .Try doing some Low Stress Training if you are afraid it will get to tall .
Yea - guy’s Hope I can wait a while to take them off – know it’s hard to tell without a picture. but I feel the plant will be OK with 20 some day s left to flip. Some times in veg I catuch my self removing leaves for bud sites - these fans are a good 6 inches long. now it wold be best it I can wait But at this stage really don’t want to I am using “side-lighting” (12by12 LED full spectrum panels)
I can’t think of any logical reason to take leaves from a 10" plant. You would usually do that to help keep air moving through your canopy or get light deeper down colas. Neither of which should be an issue with plant that size.
you are right !! going to remove them will have 3 week left + in veg. They (fan leaves) are smothering there plant; they are that big ---- thanks — it’s common sense !!
Well, good luck when you get to flower @steve2 …
what the hell I took fans leaves off both plants Ghost Train Haze #1 and Darkstar Kush . all you could see were fan leaves on both plants, No air movement/ no light now have much of both - did feed after defoliation to reduce stress
Having to reduce stress should tell you something. But if that’s your grow style I’ll let you keep on keeping on. You asked our opinion, and we gave you answers. It just wasn’t what you were looking for.
I know - generally I don’t remove leaves while in veg - Thanks for you in-put !!!
Um, no.
Here’s actual common sense: the plant puts out fan leaves to produce sugar to push new growth. Removing the fans reduces available nutrients to the plant, reducing it’s overall growth. New sprouts on your plant will hunt for light on their own without intervention on your part. There’s also the technique called “tucking”. I think that’s pretty self evident.
However; it’s your plant and you can do anything you want. I just like to maximize the potential of the plant and not hinder it.
@dbrn32 and @Covertgrower is right on.
I do know that - that"s why it was hard to do - the plants grew 1 inch since I remover them and have that “spark” to grow which they are doing – Peace !!! Did do “bending” in week 2 & 3 – Thanks
