Hello ILGM friends.

My first 2 seedlings came up yesterday. It’s a happy occasion seeing them grow!

Today, I had 3 more seeds in water that sprouted and ready for soil. I decided to be lazy, and put the additional seeds among the 2 containers. Now I’m regretting it, as the roots may get tangled and hard to separate the plants come transplant time. Thinking of pulling out and transplanting seedlings into their own container today or tomorrow. Your thoughts?

Yeah if it was me I would get them dug back up and in their own pot asap. Dig out wide and go deep and you shouldn’t cut too many roots.

You are right. they will be fighting each other.

@rlh plus the stress on the seedling when you have to rip the roots apart is an added stressor that they don’t need at this stage of development. Plenty of time later to aggressively manhandle them lol. There’s tons of sad stories of seedling failure on this forum, don’t be one of them!! Get in there while it’s still a tap and transplant!!:seedling:

Welcome to the forum @rlh
Lots of helpful folks here.
Seedlings look good. That soil is way too wet and you need to let it dry out some.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was of the mind of, water if in doubt.

The sooner, the better. The leaner got external support and survived.

Then came the operation for the split.
Ouch was heard by me.

Yah its a bad idea to run two plants in the one pot better off seperating them

Thank you folks especially DEEPDIVERDAVE & Fieldofdreams. Transplanted the two that have broke soil yesterday. Will wait for the remaining 3 to break soil before separating one more rather than dig around to find the seed.

Sending best wishes for both babies make it.

Yes dig them out ever so gently and lay the roots softly in separate pots

All 5 are growing, as I set them out daily to get a good 12 hours the N Cali Sun daily. It’s been interesting observing the leaf development. Am keeping an eye on the brownish discoloration that’s developed on older growth on 2 of 5 of seedlings. Not sure if it could be a nutrient deficiency… all have similar soil, a mix of seed starter and Peet Moss.
