I direct seed into soil in fiber pots. Once the roots start coming out of the bottom of the fiber pot, I transplant the pot directly into the soil. I find this doesn’t disturb the roots.
I like the 1 gallon pots for this grow. I fill the pot about 2/3 full with local soil. I like the soil here, it’s sandy and drains well. I’ll put the plant on top of the 2/3 full pot, and then fill the balance with potting soil. No doubt in the one gallon pot, the plants will become root bound. But with that sandy, well draining soil, you can flood the pot very easily and it’s kind of like semi-hydroponic.
The big change for the start of this grow from the first grow is I’ve doubled my light from 150w LED, to 300w LED.
My first grow I started with one 150w LED. This time I have two and for sure it has made a difference already. Ive only fertilized them once, yesterday (High Nitrogen).
An improvement over the first grow is I marked the pot for variety. The G is for OG Kush. The Z is for Zkittlez autoflower. Not sure if the OG Kush is an auto or not.
The new grow is growing very well. I can tell the increase in wattage has made a big difference from the first grow. The plants are on a 20/4 schedule, I clipped them this morning. Day 26.
They are one gallon pots. I have drilled drain holes in the bottom. The bottom 2/3 of the soil is native top soil. I really like the the soil composition here where I’m living. It is a gravelly, sandy soil mixture. It drains very well. The top 1/3, is commercial potting mix which has a little fertilizer, not much.
My plants grow in natural air, no conditioning. So, when it’s hot and dry, those 1 gallon pots dry out quickly and need more care than a bigger pot.
Daisy around.
New record, Daiso shopping for 45 minutes today.
I was left alone today in the garden.
Started these, from trim top and side.
Trying new design Clone Dome Farm
Plants are growing well after the clipping. Some how I broke off a limb, and I had read here, on the forum, that you can start clones in soil. Well, I immediately stuck the broken limb in the dirt. So far it still looks good.
Mist inside of domes.
Good growing to you.
Caution, IMO. cloning is addictive, more than crack.
Under the rock, under the BigGulp cup, is another clone (just stuck in dirt).
In my experience, the only time you need to use a “Dome,” is to either warm up the soil, or keep it warm. If the ambient air temp is 70 F, or above, you really are not gaining anything with a dome. If fact, if it’s above 70 F, you are creating good conditions for fungus.
I am still wearing long underwear.
3 days no sun, just spitting rain.
Not warm on this island, since last month.
Yes, some do well without the domes.
Like a young driver, some drive and some crash.
Learned cloning w/o domes, in water.
Currently using soil for clones.
Use both and can get good results.
11-2024 ILGM SEEDs, new cycle for growing.
1960’s had a song with some words “fungus among us”
If I remember…
This grow is much different than the first. When I clipped the first closet grow, only the top node grew tall. But now with twice the light, all nodes are reaching light.
In my first grow, I had two varietes of autoflower. Zkittlez and GG4. I bought these from MSNL. None of them were autoflower. Had to put them on 12/12 to get them to bloom at 9 weeks. They did do well on the 12/12.
On this second closet grow, I have two Zkittlez autofower from Seedsman. Twenty nine days on 18/6, and I see blooms. It looks like they are true autoflower.
