Seeds in Rockwool

@Underthestairs weirdly silent but that’s okay. I’m gonna leave them to tell me when they’re hungry for now. Rockwool is still very slightly damp, Gelato and Super Skunk both have gorgeous roots forming and the bottom of the net pot is getting moisture from the air stones.

I have a soil related problem again though - I think she’s telling me nutrient time, but that seems super strange because my understanding is FFOF should be super nute heavy? I have not watered since transplanting and giving a very sparse watering of .5ml CalMag (I used about 16 oz H2O at 6.8 ph) in a ring around the original soil/root area, about 2” from the old soil, along with some Dynamyco. The pot is still somewhat heavy, and the soil is damp about 1 1/2” down.

Should I be watering til runoff to get a good read on PPMs? I’m afraid to drown her but the new growth is progressively getting less enthused. I can’t tell if it’s nutrient lockout or malnourishment.

PS - light (VS1000) was at about 12” from her top since she grew so tall in the last couple of days, so I just raised it to 18” and expect I’ll be adjusting it again depending on feedback from folks.

Yeah the plant has that “too much light” look, which also can look like or even cause a magnesium deficiency that no amount of calmag can actually help with. I bet the plant will look better after a few days with the light moved up to 18".

Can’t help with the hydro stuff, not my bag.

Thanks @Hellraiser - I wondered if the light could be the issue since it suddenly looked way too close. No worries on the hydro stuff- I seem to be able to come up with the same answer a few times in these forums with enough searching. Somehow the soil stuff escapes me - it’s supposed to be the Easy medium isn’t it?

You would think but I find growing in coco easier than soil.

They’re some more pictures up when you can. Back up a little and get the space she’s in too. I follow the advice that hellraiser gives me… every time. So… you got what you need on lighting.

Watering to runoff will help avoid buildup in the soil after a while, but you don’t want to drown her.

@Underthestairs from just outside the tent:

Also don’t worry, I know the cord management needs desperate help. lol.

Inclined to think it’s still pest control time. About to turn off my lights for 30 minutes or so to spray and let it dry. But the upper leaf discoloration seems a bit worse today. Not tremendous but some. She’s happy enough to be smelly, at least.

The hydro babies seem okay for now.
Gelato;

Super Skunk:

Bag seed- “lemon tree”

I’ve been keeping them under plastic domes but I’m starting to wonder if Gelato and Super Skunk aren’t ready to just breathe the 38% humidity instead of being sheltered. Also wondering if it’s time to bump my light up from 50 to 75% and raise it up higher so all 3 are getting a more even spread.

Agh. Immediately after posting I noticed some funky brown spotting. Very top of the soil plant growth (not the new new leaves quite)

So I’ll keep to the soil girl because I know nothing useful on hydro.

For her size and compared to her pot, is think watering to runoff would give you almost a week not watering again. That’s speculation from the picture. But I think you’re moving in the right direction.

@Underthestairs thank you. Any thoughts on the spotting (second set of photos)?

It’s been a week since the last actual watering to runoff, and 3 days since the new pot & soil + that roughly 18 ounces of water & calmag solution. Am I being too cautious with watering?

Okay - I just ended up watering. Straight water no nutrients since she’s in fresh FFOF - buuuut - runoff is at 776ppm. PH is perfect right at 6.5, so I suppose it’s not a PH problem (I like those, I can fix those :sob:)

So that leads me back to a nutrient deficiency. On checking out the charts and guidance around the forums and on ILGM, I’ve come to believe it’s potassium (and probably magnesium, but maybe to a lesser extent). I’m finishing off the watering with a gal of 6.5ph filtered tap water, some Big Bloom to help with the potassium (4 tablespoons) and 3ml CalMag. Just gonna keep an eye on her and make sure that I didn’t miss anything over the next week. Plan to water again next Sunday.

Okay. My ppm after watering is about 1150. Water PH after nutrients is right at 6.2 (forgot they drag it down a bit). I’ve got her draining the excess water in my bathtub on top of some wire cooling racks (if my wife didn’t think I was crazy by now, I’ll be stunned if this doesn’t convince her).

That’s one sad looking plant today.

She’s not looking unhappy (but not terrible). You’re in a little over my head on diagnosing. But I think your spots look possibly light burnt. Possibly calcium. I would CalMag when I water

@Underthestairs yeah, I studied a lot of the various “textbook examples” of nutrient problems and arrived at deficiency rather than surplus - and sort of went from there. These and ILGM’s “troubleshooting” written descriptions are how I arrived where I did. (All the same chart, I just know photo quality gets lost on the big charts sometimes)

So that helps for sure, but pH swings, excessive bye levels that don’t burn, watering habits, and light response all have visible effects as well. Which is why I come here and talk to experienced growers

My thoughts exactly. I would never have suspected my lights in at the onset, but after @Hellraiser pointed it out, it felt very “duh.” They’ve been raised up and intensity lowered to 75% and she was still getting worse, hence the rabbit hole about nutes. I will say it was substantially easier to carry her into the bathroom than it was getting her back into the tent - probably a 35lb on the way there to 75-80lb on the way back kind of difference. :man_facepalming:

I try to carry as little as possible

I popped in to do a Dead Bug treatment and verify my humidifier is helping out - I’m up to 52% (up from ~38%) with it on high. Lemon Tree looks depressed and depressing, but I’m cautiously optimistic she’ll bounce back after a good night’s sleep. Growing is hard work - I still vividly remember my growing pains in my legs when I went from 5’ to 5’9” over the course of a few months. Bet this feels the same but even worse.

I didn’t snap a photo, didn’t think I brought my phone with me til I was leaving and saw it in the table by the door. I’ll report back tomorrow. Got a 12+ hour day, so it may be 2nd hand photos from the significant other (I’m endlessly thankful that she’s supportive and even willing to give me progress reports).

@Hellraiser this one is a question for you - and anyone else you can tag in for lighting suggestions. I’m going HLG - seems like a no brainer compared to the other LED alternatives. I can go one of three ways -

the kit route, whereby I can do a 260 BSpec and a 320XL Rspec or double up on 2 260Rspecs and skip the BSpec

The refurb light route, where I can pick up a 600 Rspec

Or the combo approach of a refurb 300L Rspec and a BSpec kit (probably the 135)

I’m in a 4x4 right now with four plants, I’m thinking it’s gonna get cramped so having multiple good lights is a pro but having lighting sufficient for the space I’m in is the biggest priority.

My cap is ~$700ish so I’m trying to make the most of what I can get.

If I was lighting a 4x4 I’d go with 2 260 XL rspecs and skip the bspec. If you ever get a dedicated veg tent than a good time to get a bspec.
