Seeds for beginners?

Hey new grower here about to be on the second half of my first grow and would like to start getting set up for the next. this round I just used bag seed from a dispo purchase of jealousy just to get the hang of what needs to be done for success. I’m looking for good reputable seed banks/genetics and at this moment a reasonable price wouldn’t mind messing with an auto either in the end I know I’m gonna probably prefer photos however wouldn’t mind paying the extra money for greatness so if anyone has a list of awesome strains they had fun growing and good banks that’s arnt a headache to deal with that would be most helpful

Welcome to the forum! You’ll get a lot of good advice around here!

I’m a huge supporter of ILGM and its genetics. Like you, I’m new to growing—I’m on my third grow now. I strongly recommend the ILGM White Widow Autos or the ILGM Grand Daddy Purple Kush Autos. I’ve also grown the Gold Lef Feminized, which was also an easy strain to grow.

My first grow was White Widow and Gold Leaf. Since that experience, I’ve decided to focus on Autos until I better understand the particulars of growing. The faster life cycle expedites my learning and approach.

I started to grow about a year ago. I started with white widow auto and each grow I learned more and more and each grow got better and better. I have a Bruce Banner auto about 7 weeks flowering and just planted another. I stagger my grows so about every 6 weeks I can harvest. I must say the last White widow grow is the best weed I’ve had in years. I use the sugar leaves to make chocolate also. Anything you need to know, this forum will have the answer with zero judgement.j

I can see that definitely not as much room for mistakes with autos but also teaches the fundamentals of watering and feeding i feel, were as phots give you more grace if you mess up

Thank you I appreciate it! Yeah I love a good white widow! However I don’t know how true this is but I had heard from a buddy that the true genetics to WW are now Black widow is this true cause I did notice a change around 2015 with the strain when I’d get from the dispos

Cheap, top strain and strength, easy to grow for beginners, amazing genetics!?

Sensi Skunk from Sensi seeds, reg fem and auto stocked…

One of the strongest strains been going a few decades, you cannot go wrong with Sensi seeds or this strain.

After you grown that try their super skunk, another old strain that’s cheap easy and breaking big waves on all this modern stuff still.

Growing some old strains will also learn you that a lot of this modern stuff is mere hype, the same strength and tastes were here thirty years ago nothing has changed just a lot more is available now. Why pay hundreds when for a few dollars you can get equally as good.

Hope that helps

I believe that black widow is a hybrid of South American and South Indian strains… I think it’s used alot for medical needs…I read about it a while ago so I might be remembering wrong.

I would agree with this to an extent. Any hiccup can cause an auto to start flowering, as long as the maturity level was hit. That can mean a 12 inch stunted plant can start flowering. With a photo, it gives you options. You can top, fim, train, etc to a plant and just give it a couple of days to heal before youre in the clear. Once in the clear, you decide whats next. I see so many people state they went with autos because they are new to growing and want to go the easier route. Autos have a mind of their own; some will take abuse and some will immediately start flowering over the tiniest bit.

I think the intimidating factor with photos is you have to pull the trigger on when to start flowering. As long as you gave a few days to heal any training, your good to switch the light cycle. With photos, its the size of the plant, the size of the pot, the media, the frequency you want to water, the size of the tent, the yield you desire, etc that should dictate when you flip the timers. In my opinion, autos require a more keen eye to notice the changes of the plant versus being in control. Especially when it comes to chop time. Knowing when you flipped the lights and adding a week or two transition period versus wondering when your auto started flowering can definitely help a new grower.

Thats almost a loaded question asking on an ilgm seed bank forum for recommendations on where to get seeds :rofl::rofl:

In all seriousness though, what traits are important to you? You can find breeders focused strictly on yield, bag appeal, terps, extraction, high thc, etc. Even outside versus indoor growing can dictate where you go.

Thank you for the reply, @brownsfan100.

I’m a new grower as of July 4, 2023. Growing autos taught me that I cannot take a day off. Your ladies need perpetual inspection, observation, care, and attention. If I botch that with an auto, I lose yield. If I do that with a photo, the herms come to town, at least in my experience. That fact has me sold on new growers learning with autos and transitioning to photos once they understand environment, nutrients, watering, grow medium, timing, etc.

I mean no offesnse, this is just my perspective as someone new to this delightful hobby.

Again, thank you for your valid view, My Friend!

@brownsfan100 — I assume you are a Cleveland person. The Mother of my children is from just outside Cleveland. Beautiful country!

No offense taken, one of my favorite aspects of this forum is multiple people bouncing their thoughts and/or experiences off of one another to achieve the desired outcome.

I can truly respect you hold yourself to such tight standards, you make sure that you keep up on the small details. As someone that likes to take lazy days (today ), my hat goes off to people that have the discipline to eliminate the lazy days and put the quality of their plant first. You may be new as you stated, but that quality mindset will take you to elevations that others only hope to achieve. Keep up the good work my friend :+1:

Dang, I consider that to be among the highest of compliments. Thank you for your kind words!

My grows aren’t headed for High Times, but I’m trying and I LOVE investing the time and effort into the hobby. And let’s be honest, the payoff doesn’t suck!

Full disclosure — I OBSESS over the details and monitoring my ladies. Probably too much to get it ll right. But the intellectual challenge is my reward. Well, that and some dank flower!

NIce! My ex hails from Windham. But she’s my ex, so I have no reason to return to that part of the world unless there is a death or a wedding I need to attend.

There’s a lot of seed companies out there. Some guarantee 80% germination but ILGM is 100% or free replacement. No hassle at all. Some you have to pay shipping, ILGM you don’t. I’ve purchased from two other companies but haven’t grown them yet so I can’t compare. To get strains I’ve heard of but ILGM didn’t carry I did have to pay twice as much. Good luck with your choice.

I have some coupons for royal queen seeds. I don’t use photos, so the 5free seed I won on scratch offs from purchase just never get used. I also have one for 3 free autos, critical auto, I already have 20 plus on backstop, so I don’t need anyone. You have to spend $30 to use the coupon, but you also get freebies added for spending that’s $30. And I got my seeds in 3 days from the day I placed order. I got 9 Autos for $32 bucks last week using a coupon code and taking advantage of one their sales plus the freebies. Plus it any do t germinate they replace them for free.Let me know if you want them
