@The_Chef you and i have the same light right? I would like to understand something about distance of light to canopy. Hlg has recommended hieghts i am aware. Do you know if you go off and choose to do a hight of 12 inches but its dimmed enough to give me a dli of no more than 15. Am i still good or am i going to cause problems because of the height? What do you think?

Blastfact has a good technique for starting and watering. His post with all the pictures is very good. I do pretty much the same thing. I just did an experiment with a new sprouted seedling in a solo cup. I didn’t water it for 21 days. It is still alive. If the soil is even just damp the plant will not die. Watering should be done infrequently for seedlings, but when you do its ok to give them a good drink. Just don’t drown them every single day. Give them time to seek out water in deeper areas. They root really fast. And deep.

@Spiney_norman question, so druppy leaves are ok? Is that common for most people to let their plants get to that point most of the time and its ok?? I hate when the look this way !

I use it as an indicator for how often to water.
For example during my grow I see the plants drooping from dry soil after 5 days. So I now will water every 4 days until I see them droop at the 4 day mark. Now I will water every 3 days. So don’t make a habit of letting them dry too much but you can use it as an indicator of how often to water.
I grow in coco now so I water every day. In soil you want wet/dry cycles.
After a few grows you will get a feel for when to water. Lifting the pots to see how light they are works for a lot of people.

Yep. I go by DLI on the meter. My 4x8 is about 15 inches above the canopy at about 53 DLI. The one in the 4x4 is probably 3 feet above the canopy running at about 35 DLI which I’ll be bumping up tomorrow to about 40 and to 50 by next week.

I’m along for the ride brother. You in coco/perlite?

Yes sir! I made a concoction! What had happened was i bought a few different types of soil, not knowing much at all. So what i used was a layer on the botton of worm castings ,the rest coco loco and the top 30% perlite, peat moss, and some left over ocean, and worm castings again. I"ll never spend so much again!! I feel like deleting! Lol! It was mostly coco loco

That’s an interesting concoction. So you have a coco soil mix. I believe @Bulldognuts uses coco loco with great success.
His journal has a wealth of info on that type of grow.
I’m sure he’ll chime in if you have any questions with that medium. I’m guessing you’d treat it as a soil grow but he would know better. :man_shrugging:
