When I first plant my seedling , can I put it in soil that already has fertiliser in it or does it have to be organic? Cheers
Either is fine. What soil are you planning on using?
I brought some seeds online and they are saying to use organic soil just making sure it was ok if I use something else … maybe coco peat and per light
Coco/perlite is a good choice. I would leave out the peat. You will need to water daily and begin feeding when the seedlings cotyledon leaves yellow.
The seller states it has nutrients in it. It may not be compatible with cannabis. Coco should be inert and made of 100% coco coir.
Thanks heaps I appreciate that !
What he said. You’ll find it most economical to buy in dry bricks. You CAN buy it bagged and loose, but it’s way pricier. I get mine on Amazon every couple of years for seed starting veg, etc.
Get some cannabis friendly soil like Fox farms happy frog to start with. It will feed your plant for 4-5 weeks. You wont have to water and feed every day like you would with coco. Coco is good but it requires a little more experience with knowing how to feed and water correctly.
Here’s what works for me. Get some fox farm happy frog soil, and solo cups. Moisten the soil, and fill the solo cup. Plant the seed directly into the soil (not very deep), spray a little water on it to settle the seed, and stick a baggie over the top to make a little greenhouse. Keep it warm, and it should break ground in about 3 or 4 days. Stick it under your light on low power, and don’t water until dry.
When seedling is as wide as the cup, transplant into pot of happy frog mixed with perlite, worm castings, a little blood and bone meal, and fox farm fruit and flower 4-9-3 per the instructions on the package. Then top dress with the fruit and flower after 6 weeks, then once a month after that. I use a little kelp me kelp you during veg. I also use recharge occasionally to keep the microbes healthy.
I would say @Dexterado organic method would be easier for a new grower. Living soil can seem daunting at first because there is so much info to digest on making quality soil, but once you have a quality soil the soil and the biology do the heavy lifting. It’s mostly just water and a top dress from time to time. I have been growing in coco perlite for the last few years now and it does require a fair amount of effort to keep everything fed and happy. In my experience coco is also just a little more costly because of the amount of nutes and additives used in daily feeding. If coco is really what you want to try, coco for cannabis is a fantastic resource that will get you started. I will say coco is fun cuz it you get all the control.
