I just started these ladies under my new light, its a hlg300b for vegging. Im at 30% at 40". They look like they are growing a lil wierd…
Is this genetic/normal or is there a lighting issue? The hydro and 70/30 coco/perlite and some dirt…ph and ec are perfect, lightly fed…maybe nothing is wrong…just curious bc of the leaves coming in.
I use the HLG300l Bspec for vegging also. The first thing im seeing is that the seedling leaves are wet. You want to avoid this as much as possible. The droplets act like a magnifying glass and with the new light, theres a chance of burning the leaves. I usually go for 25% intensity 18 inches above canopy for the first 2 weeks or they get their first true leaves. Over the course of a week or so, ill increase intensity a smidge. I try to stay around 200 to 300 ppfd during seedling early veg and after theyre established ill have them at around 500 to 600 mid veg into late before i flip. Youll love that light. Thats what i started the PB crosses with. Might also want to dome the seedlings and mist the inside of the dome.
I’ll add that the strange things you see aren’t due to lighting. Avoid directly misting your plants. It invites more issues than it can possibly help. The soil has also likely been too wet. Seedlings that size only need a couple ml of water per day.
Seedlings hate wet soil. All they have is a tap root and it is easy to overwhelm a seedling with too much water. Roots need oxygen and it is very difficult for a seedling to extract oxygen from the soil if the soil is wet all the time.
The best method for seeing that a seedling has what it needs without risking root rot is to instead use a dome and to not water the soil at all. Use a clear Solo cup or a cut pop bottle and spray inside of the dome a couple of times each day. The plant can get all of the water it needs via the leaves from the humidity in the dome. Start watering a few ml a day when the plant outgrows the dome.
Cannabis will withstand dry soil far better than it can withstand chronically wet soil.
Are you planning on moving these plants outside or adding more lighting? You can effectively veg perhaps 3 or 4 plants with your light without experiencing too much stretching
I bought that ligjt to have a veg tent. My grow room is occupied in flower rn on 12/12…thats where my full spec lights are. I picked this hlgbspec up inexpensive so dedicated a tent to that. Some are autos and some are photos. I am moving the dirt ones outside and goong to put the hydro ones in a better set up.
I had misted before the pics. They were dry this morning. I blotted the droplets off…i know it looks like h20 no nos there, but i dont saturated it…usually…lol… and i let it dry out. I was using domes and someone told me not to …i always used them until it hits the tio…si this is the first time ive not domed them.
My q is really about finding the right hieght and intensity. I do have that photone app. I was actually curious to even what my ppfd ahould be in my flower tent also. Im trying ti find the sweet spot and underatand what kind of reaction ,and at what stage, equates to too much light or not enough…what will the plant show? Stacking? Internodal issues? Some of the developing sets of leaves are not even…so i want to be able to recognize what perfecr lighting environments are. Trying to learn here. Thats all. Thanks !
Here they are now…not wet. Lol. Why are the leaves of the hydro ones irregular? The soil ones are also not coming in pairs, or regular pairs at least. This is why i was wondering about light. Ppfd on photone app reads 270umol/s And i found a few of these domes i can use. My humidity
My flowering ladies ppfd is measuring 1400 to 1600. Should i raise lights? Lower intensity? What subtlties start to happen if they are getring too mucb if yiu cant SEE burning…or what if they need more, what irregularities would i see?
You will see an excessively compact plant that will struggle with airflow within the canopy if intensity is too high. If too low you will have excessive node spacing and flowers that are airy.
PPFD levels above 1,400 don’t help the plant, but it doesn’t necessarily hurt them either. You can adjust by either lowering intensity or raising the light. It’s up to you how you accomplish it.
I can’t comment on the hydro questions. I’m a soil grower.
Is one HLG 300l respec enough for a 4×4 tent? I was told i needed 2 of them?
How far should i raise my lights for 1 month old plants? Should i use both 300l respec and the HLG 200 respec? What intensity should i set them at? I was instructed to use half power for a few days after moving them from outside to insider the tent…
I have a 300bspec in a 4x4 for veg running 18/6 (Bspec os a veg light) I have 2 hlg 600rspecs plus a 200rspec in an 8×9×8 for flower pn a 12/12. I actually have another 600 for the room, but no sense hamging it at tgis point. The way its set up, the 2 600s are giving me hella power, ppfd min over 1200 at 80% power and 21". Its containjng the entire area of scrog. Idk if that helps.
As many as i can squeeze into a 4×4… i have numerous plants going until i can spot the males then ill be down to my allowment of 6 females. So it will always be 6 plants no matter what. Thats why i bought a 4×4 because theres just enough room for them. I know, more info than you needed…lol
I honestly would add another one if youre going to have six plants. I try to get at least 150 to 200watts per plant. Im maxed out right now with the 4 lights i have going and it still not enough… im at the minimum lighting with 10 plants in flowering
Okay then, so ill be running the 2 lights i have at full power then, once they are acclimated to the new environment? Ill need a 3rd light then, is what your saying? Let me know, im in deep now. Thersz no turning back. Only moving foreward from here on out. Money is not an issue. Ill spend what i need to. Just let me know. @ChittyChittyBangin

So, with fewer plants it needs less lighting. Even though its a 4×4 with alot of light, the more plants the more the light is used. I see… its making more sense to me now. Its how my brain works. I need to see everything from different angles to get the clear meaning.
