Seedling trouble, plants bending and breaking

My seedlings have become leggy and the stems are incredibly fragile. I have had three plants bend and collapse. I have them growing in a north facing window sill (same process as the last two years) and eventually they will be outdoors in the ground. This is my third season doing guerilla growing, and I’m worried that my seedlings are all doomed and that I won’t have any plants to put out this year. Any thoughts on what’s going on here?

Usually, leggy seedlings aren’t getting enough light. Difficult to evaluate without seeing the setup. The falling over is often caused by “damping off” but that usually happens closer to the soil line. Damping off is caused by too frequent watering and not letting the soil dry.

Need light closer or turned up a bit, they are stretching for more.

This was my Peyote cookies solo cup grow, she seemed to be a light whore. Never enough

Thanks! I’ll make some adjustments to let the soil dry out more regularly. I think I over-corrected because last week I lost two plants due to too much time in the sun and not enough water. I don’t have a tent, and outside gets hot fast for seedlings at this stage.

I’m trying to find a happy medium, but my environmental controls are pretty limited. I may try a shady spot outside for a few hours in the evening for a few days. It’s a battle! Thanks for the great advice!

I grow indoors so don’t have the experience to offer anything really helpful. There are many others on the board that start indoors and move outdoors, like you. They may have better advice.

Hardening them off will help. I prefer morning indirect sun for hardening off. It’s slightly cooler than the evenings for my environment.

Harden them off slow, full sun 1-2 hrs unless its hot as hatis , mine go out in the am in shade until afternoon sun then when I get home from work back into shade they go for the first 2-3 weeks then kick them out into the yard till harvest, I live in Michigan so weather permiting. Some of last yr garden.

Overwatering

That one needs a sling to get it standing or it’s gonna die for sure. A toothpick with a bread tie or something handy to you. @backwoodsblunts
If it stays bent then it’s chocking off the tips supply line. Think like, the stalk is a hose and the flow is being cut off.

Had to do that with this one.
