Greetings grow mates! Looking for some feedback. I have zero knowledge pertaining to strains, growing and harvesting but would like some direction. I don’t smoke but my wife smokes daily. She’s had 5 back surgeries and finds pain relief from partaking. I have green thumb and would like to begin growing for her.
First question is what does the community recommend for max pain relief? We source locally but every buy is a crap shoot. It varies from makes her sleepy to no pain relief. She’s ok with a buzz, but not ok with comatose. That’s my primary impetus for growing, a consistent and reliable product and result.
My grow options are indoor for now with a later upgrade to outdoors. I’ll search the forum for starter systems later.
Last question. Are CBD strains completely devoid of buzz as compared to THC strains?
Not necessarily. Some high CBD strains also contain a good bit of THC, though there are some strains out there that are CBD only. Elektra is one of the CBD only strains. I have chosen a CBD isolate for CBD only. Lazarus Naturals, Bluebird, and CBD Distillery all sell quality CBD isolates.
This article may be helpful for you. Welcome to the forum.
I’m no help in strain selection, but you might consider a mother/cloning type of grow if you’re looking for solid consistency. You’re going to get a lot of variety growing from seed.
Most seed sellers list both THC and CBD % content by strain. There are very few CBD only strains. High CBD strains do tend to be lower in THC, but often still contain more than enough THC to give you a buzz.
Here’s what I use for CBD. It is an isolate from Lazarus Naturals.
I have a cousin that is a commercial CBD farmer. I believe he grows Elektra clones. CBD farmers are required to use clones. @Bubbala’s post about clones is a good idea.
My wife is a chronic pain patient.
There are some different choices and each person will react differently to even plants of the same strain.
We found some success with Blue Dream which as a fair amount of CBD as well as higher THC.
Harlequin has a high CBD content and a lower THC but not devoid of THC. I find it really helps improve her outlook and helps sleep. Used as edibles mostly.
I started a OG Kush CBD this grow and will test it. It has less than 1% THC and High CBD 15%. As mentioned by @Bubbala posted, cloning is what you want to do. Save clones from each plant so you can continue to grow a particular plant that works for you. I am still growing the Harlequin I started over 2 years ago because it worked so well.
Also, dont dismiss a strain because one particular plant didnt help. From seed each plant will have some unique properties. You may find one works but its sister does not.
Cream and Cheese from seedsman is a 1-1 thc/cbd. Grows easy with large yield. The medical circle i grow for loves it. 17+cbd and thc. Tasty and smooth. No lock. Harvest 70%-100% cloudy for the cbd. Welcome to the forum.
Thank all for your input. Your replies resulted in my spending the last few hours educating myself. Based on my research, CBG appears to be the better choice for my wife and her chronic lower back, hip and leg pain. The science behind CBD, CBG, CBN, Delta 8 and THC is impressive. I’ll will continue my research on CBG and search for seed but initially the pickings appear to be slim. I will say that there is a lot more science and clinical studies out there to support medicinal use of cannabinoid’s. I for one, am on a mission to help my wife and in the process learn a new. Lots of data to digest.
Another very high CBD strain other than the one mentioned above, acdc, is called charolettes web. Very high. Worth a look. Happy thanksgiving to you as well and to all members in our grow family here.
Concentrates are my main pain med. Got off opiates and gabopentin. Infused coconut is my fave. Long lasting and little couchlock if dose properly. My friends like the gummies made with it. Can use any strain with the basic properties you seek. After a little tolerance time the pain effects overide the high.
I suffer from chronic back pain. What i get for working the woowoo wagon for 2 decades… ive found that grandaddy purp is great for inflammation. I press it into concentrate to give me more options to consume. The pain from the arthritis in my hands is nearly null and void after consuming. Im strain hunting for medicinal purposes. Ive got 7 strains coming down the pipeline in the next few weeks. Itll take a few weeks to be able to test, but ill report back. Take a look at my grow journal and you will see everything ive done.
I found the “Discover Marijuana” YouTube channel very helpful. Especially, the “CBD Vs THC…” post. It included a relational bubble chart that details the areas they affect. CBD and CBG appear to target the areas of interest for my wife. I’ll try to include a screen shot of the chart below.
Thanks for the info. I’m keenly interested in your test results. Please keep me posted.
