Seed Genetics from ILGM

My first grow. Ordered seeds mid March, terminated
1 April, all 4 popped. Under. T5s for 10 days then transplanted into Coir mix with 150 W LEDs. At 6 weeks now and all are doing well. Two plants have very broad (indaca) looking leaves while the other two are lighter in color and have the narrower (sativa) type leaves. White Widow is labled as a Indaca dominate strain, is it possible I received two different strains or is there sometimes that much of a difference in the same genetics? Root pH all at 6.3 all liqued fed, every other wattering with worm caseing and Roots Nitro (guano)Tea.

I believe there could be the much difference in the genetics but let’s get a few others to chin in also.

Agree, thanks Ds401

Hybrids always have the potential to express either lineage or pheno this is very common with plants from seed which is why people that clones select mothers from multiple potential plants. Seeds are genetically diverse but just because leaves are narrow doesn’t mean she will act entirely like a sativa through whole grow

Thanks Donaldj,
I recently ask a simular question here with no good answers. I grew 4 plants, White Widow Fem from same 10 pack ilgm seeds. 2 are dark green with broad leaves the other 2 more pale with narrow leaves. As I am in my first grow I was not sure if I got a variety of seeds OR if the genetics could show features of the non dominant strain. All grown in Coir with 6.3 pH all healthy. Thanks again for your post.

Just think of it as having kids some have blue eyes some dark light hair dark hair genes can always express differently. Plant strains are made by crossing several strains then stablizing by pollenating with their own strain until traits are more stable and less random. This does mean that they can have different appearances at times through grow but end result is usually quite similar

i like your analogy Donald and that makes perfect since if you look at the way these fem seeds are grown and the genetic researching that goes into it i would actually be glad to have more then one pheno type if i could get a indica dominate and a sativa dominate looking plants from these seeds as Donald said that doesn’t mean they wont ever express the other phenotypes later in the life cycle especially if you have a sativa dominate plant because those love to grow long and strong once you get to the flowering stages am i understanding this correctly please let me know if ive got this wrong using cloning techniques is a good way to keep your favorite strain going

Think you got it sir

Sounds about right I take cuttings from everything on the off chance I fall in love with a plant

I have some seeds from a buddy of mine I’m not sure of the strain information he didn’t know much about them I’m thinking they came from a hermie is it worth trying to cultivate it ive heard other places that with hermie seeds first off I could have genetic problems and micro nutrients that pass from mother to seeds but in hermies are these genes intact and unchanged or is it best to just throw them it the seeds just popped I just wanted to know if it is worth the trouble I have 30 seeds coming from ilgm.com and I couldn’t be more excited thanks guys keeps up the good work

Some of the BEST plants I ever grew were from some unknown bag weed. I found about 50 in a pound I had. Kept them, and slowly just grew them, or experimented on them, and gave a lot away too.

EVERY ONE was a female. I don’t know if I was just that lucky, but every single seed grown was a female, and grew some of the best bud I had ever grown. @Bobbyb just finished a harvest of the seeds I’m talking about. I gave him 2 of them last year and he just harvested the last one.

Don’t underestimate the bag seeds

AWESOME these are actually doing pretty well

other then the slight light or humidity problem I had I’m still figuring that out these just sprouted yesterday mourning I’m not sure if they are supposed to look droopy or am I just tripping thanks for the advice ktreez420

Careful not to keep the rapid rooters too wet now. You are at high risk for damping off, and they seem to be stretching for the light.

Can you move your lights closer, or add more lighting? You want to avoid the stretch while they’re so young.
