Second grow. Considering staged harvest

I’m planning to harvest in a couple of weeks since we’re leaving the country for two weeks in October. I’m looking at top colas that are bigger on the GDPs than they ever got on last year’s White Widows. So I’m thinking of harvesting ALL the tops but leaving lower buds while we’re gone just to see what will happen. Given 80s in September, which is weird in upstate NY, I’d bet the little ones we leave would be great by the time we get home at the end of October.

So, have you done this? If so, how did it go? We do have neighbors who will look in on things for us and cut if things go seriously wonky with weather. It would be fun to try instead of just trashing the smaller buds on the lower branches.

Aww its too bad that has to be…They look great!! But I dont see a problem if your neighbors can look after them…If not id say that its better to get something out of them yes… Only thing Id add is how are your Trichomes looking? Do you think the buds @ the time before you’re leaving will be dry enough to cure? Hope you find a solution and keep us posted!!

Thanks! They’re going into Grove bags after drying, so that will be fine. Last time, it took only a bit over a week to dry the harvest and get it bagged, and it worked very well. As well as I can see them, the trichomes look pretty cloudy. The pistils are turning dark and curling in in spots, but that depends on where they are on the plants. That’s why I’m thinking to leave some up while we’re gone.

I’d give them as much time as you can before cutting anything. Most of what I see looks like it still has a week more likely 2 or more. If you cut now they will not have reached their full potential, but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Cutting the tops off will probably stress the plant quite a bit for a few days, but it should recover fine with a little time.

Thanks. As I said, I’ll harvest in another couple of weeks, not right now. That should give me time to wash, sweat, dry and bag before we go. Leaving the lower little buds on will be mostly an experiment. Have you ever tried it?

I’ve harvested plants over a period of a few days, but not weeks. I have done quite a few regens in the past which is essentially the same idea without harvesting the buds.

Interesting. I’ll see whether this works well. Of course, much might depend on the skills and judgment of my sweet neighbor who will look in on them. But since she’s one of the people I share with, I’m sure she’ll use her best judgment.
