I feel old….

I started growing over 20 years ago, finding a bag seed and keeping a continuous grow of the single strain going for 3-5 years at a time until a catastrophe would happen and I have to start over again with more bag seeds. I would take clones from the previous generation and just keep going. During this 17 year growing phase of my perpetual clone grow I used Fox Farms soils and nutrients with MH light for vegging and HPS for flower.

A little over three years ago I found you could order seeds from ILGM and this forum and since then I’ve upped my game considerably.

Now I primarily grow indoors using AutoPots and coco. In the last three years I’ve tried Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Connoisseur Coco, Heavy 16, and now that I’m using primarily AutoPots, the Hydrodynamics Ionic line of nutrients.

Living in Michigan I gave up on outdoor grows since every year was a race to finish before bad weather hit. Now if I grow outdoors it’s just for the fun of it using up my stash of autoflower seeds. All my indoor grows are photoperiod plants.

I’ve refined my grow to where I use 4 tents and start 1-2 seeds per month, and harvest 1-2 plants per month. I set it up this way because I love growing and smoking, but hate the trimming.

2 years at it and love every second.

Coco and soil grower
Indoor closet at 3x3.5’

Soil: BioBizz Light Mix (I don’t like the hot stuff)
Coco: Cannacoco expandable bricks
Jack’s Nutrients
TPS Silica Gold (for coco)
HLG 350r
Some LST, nothing too crazy
Photos and Autos, I love them both.

I miss anything? I ain’t got my mind right yet, but that’s about to change after a few hits of this Old Man Seed Clone…

Have used soil for African Violets to plain old dirt
Use filtered water until plants are in Veg then use well water ( kinda hard )

I’m StickyFrostyBuds and well, I love to grow and consume sticky, frosty, buds!

In addition to my infatuation with Cannabis (and Cannabis culture), I love biking (MTB, Road, BMX, Dirt Jumping), bike building, hiking, camping, fishing, guitar, woodworking, and I love spending as much time as I can with my wife and kids!

My first grow was in 1995 in my college apartment (Yes that picture proves I knew nothing lol) and I was hooked from the moment that first bean popped! I’ve grown consistently for the past 28 years.

FirstGrow1995

My main jam is organic soil growing, but I’ve also spent time with hydro systems (DWC, Ebb & Flow, Drip, Aeroponics etc). In a past life I ran 3 large scale experimental greenhouses (food/produce not Cannabis) for my parents organics company…so thankful they taught me the joy of gardening!

Nowadays, I focus on indoor and outdoor organic Cannabis. I strongly prefer photo period plants, typically grown from feminized seed; or clones from my own mother plants. That said, I’ve always got several Auto’s going too. I also love to make and consume hash, rosin, live rosin, and edibles!

First time grower here and was wondering I planted a random seed I had laying around and it’s about day 27 now and the plant has developed pistils just wondering if it’s too early for pistil since it’s only been day 27 since sprout also wondering if the plant is a auto and would also like to hear anyone opinion on the size of the plant is it small for day 27 or doing good

If it’s an auto, it’s about to flower. If it’s a photo, it’s probably just showing sex.

One year experience here, I grew indoor and outdoor last year…
Had success growing in Fox Farms Happy Frog along with Jacks 321 nutrients. Using the Jacks 321 made life easy, the ph was always spot on and I never had any nute burn or issues. Captain Jacks Dead Bug Spray took care of any pests (outdoors).
I tried a lot of techniques (topping, fimming, lst with tie downs and clips, supercropping, tucking, sog method on indoor grow)…
This years grow: for outdoors I’ll be topping to control height, and for training I’ll utilize large tomato cages. I used one on a plant last year and it worked well. I zip tied the branches to the cage (nice and spread out). Provided support in the wind, and along with defoliation it allowed for great light penetration.
For indoors I’ll be doing lst and the sog method (mesh nets). And of course defoliation to allow for airflow…
New this year is using last years soil with fresh amendments. Not sure yet if I’ll top dress or go back to the Jacks when it’s time to feed…

Currently a hydro purist, so (R)DWC systems. I’ve mostly focused on veggies over the past 4 years, with 3 canna grows thrown in for good measure. I built a 4" PVC 6 rail, twin tier system that some mistakenly call NFT, but it’s really a hybrid of RDWC. I ran that, and a 5x5 for a couple years, but now it’s just canna in a 2x4. The cost to product ratio for veggies wasn’t sustainable, but it’s just such an awesome hobby! By comparison, considering what it costs to hunt or fish, I felt it justified for a time.

I’ve always used GH nutes, partly cuz it’s what I knew from my single canna DWC run in the 90’s, an partly cuz I got a sweet deal on 6gal jugs back when I started. Now my GH supply will probably outlive me, so outside of experiments, I’m kinda stuck with it. I run RO’d well water, with a calmag supp. Haven’t ventured into any of the other array of supps just yet.

I’m just a small personal grower, doing only a couple plants a year, but now that we’re legal, I’m working on dialing in my system for more continuous operation. I’m all about “less is more”, and to quote Einstein, “The definition of genius is taking the complex and making it simple.” I’m just a wanna-be genius, but we all need goals, right?

I’ve had acceptable results, and outside of a few stubborn clones, I’ve have yet to kill a single plant… that I remember at least, I’ve grown hundreds of veggies, and I’m almost 60, so, I could be forgetfully mistaken. Anyway, I still feel my results could be substantially improved, especially in the terpene area (circle back to more supps).

I’ve been a machinery operator/troubleshooter/mechanic my whole life, and my default persona is that of a “fixer”. I’ve managed pretty good with research from blogs, YouTube, etc., but after a few purchases from ILGM, and wanting to take things to the next level, I made the leap to join these forums. I’ve only been here a short time, but so far no regrets. It seems like an awesome fam, and there’s some serious perfectionist experts here that at times, make me feel like a first time grower! My appreciation to all of you for being so welcoming! It’s not easy knowing how to jump into a forum as a new guy, and y’all have been extraordinary!

So, I’ve been growing outdoors since the late 70’s, mountain environment, which has it’s own unique challenges every grow season. Been organic gardening/growing before it was the norm. Having poor, rocky, clay soil required additives to boost soil fertility which were very limited back then so our go to was good ole manure/organic compost and limestone (for PH) something local generational farmers were quite aware of. My first rookie grows consisted of planting seeds in the ground gathered from the previous years bag seeds from whatever we managed to acquire, watering and seeing what happened. You never knew what you would end up with concerning quality and off course little quantity not to mention the price it would cost you if you got caught but amazingly we usually ended up with some fairly nice buds and pretty decent smoke the days when we realized what true sensei without seeds was, but it was hit or miss. Oh yeah, never had issues with bud rot, molds, bugs, when weed used to be weed, now it’s become finicky. The following years have been a learning experience or I should say, it’s been a long journey and still have a long way to go. All the grow mediums, fertilizers, seed strains, etc., that are now available can be overwhelming and tempting which gets today’s grower in trouble of always doing too much and like I mention, the over hybridization of so many seed strains that current seed selections carry many issues of their own due to genetics. So, all this said, to come to my conclusion, KISS - keep it simple stupid! It’s a plant like any other plant for the most part. Provide the right amount of NPK, PH, water and light and success is inevitable. I have several mixes I like to use, my own compost, fox farm happy frog/ocean forest, coco coir, roots 707 to name a few, it’s all good. Like I said, keep it simple, experiment and enjoy the journey! If it works, keep doing it. If it doesn’t, pretty sure you won’t do that again. I apologize I got a little carried away, comes with age and my first post to this site, lol! Happy growing.

I am with you with the KISS approach! I have regressed to the way my grandparents and parents cared for their farms and gardens.

I experiment with free sample of the “latest amendment” but always to back to feed the soil, feed the plant.

Agree, it’s the adventure of trying something new but not at the expense of making complicating it.

Hello everyone I have been growing for about 20 years. Indoors and outdoors, I prefer outdoors. I don’t really have any secrets to my grows just make sure your plants are protected from bugs. And make sure you follow a good nutrient program. And be consistent you can’t take a day off.

This is what I have going this year.

This was last years. Had a really nice harvest.
