Hi. I’m in Virginia and I planted 6 seeds indoor in hopes that three would sprout. Four have sprouted (the Virginia limit). As suggested I used the clear Soho cups to cover them which worked very well. It is now the end of the first week an I have 2 each 2.5” sprouts and two that are 1.5”. Should I remove the cups? The taller ones have small drops of water on them and I am concerned (based on my beginner research), that they will receive too much water.
Good Morning! If you are just misting inside the clear cups and just lightly misting the top of the soil you will be fine. The advice I received was leave the domes on until the leaves reach the dome. Happy Growing
Me i dont use domes i grow my seedling in a solo cup until its leaves are about half inch to a inch over the edge of the solo cup then i plant them in five gallon fabric pot
You can take a piece of paper towel and gently wick the drops away.
This will help prevent lensing from the light and burnt spots on the leaves.
I run mine without domes now because of this.
Got a pic ?
Put it up and start a journal.
That will keep all your info in one place and you’ll be able to refer back to your notes.
And others will be able to help more easily.
That is good to know. I have trouble keeping the humidity up to 70 so someone advised the cups which have done the trick but now I am concerned that the grow area is too humid.
Help! Checked out my four day day old sprouts today. All were healthy up until last night. Today the tallest and healthiest has fallen over and two of the four have leaves curling under. Any advice?
Hi Captain. Thanks for the reply. I removed the domes this AM. HR read 52 outside the domes. Must have been much higher inside. I am assuming that the curling is likely due to over humidification? The soil outside the domes is dry. I have propped up the sprout that fell over. Do you have any other advice for this ignorant beginner? I am beginning to have a great deal more respect for my wife and the birth of our two kids.
Put the dome back on and mist the inside beforehand. Hopefully they will perk back up. They went from high humidity to about 50%. You will find people grow with and without domes. In my opinion with autos it’s good to use them so the growth doesn’t slow much. With photos you have as much time as you need to let your plant recover from any missteps. Autos don’t give you that flexibility. Just what I have found. I hope they come around.
Any one that’s not using a dome is forgetting to mention that they more then likely are controlling the RH in there tent and it’s probably over 60% if not 70+%.
Leaving domes on helps you have to worry about water less by keeping RH up as plants can and do get alot of their water from their leafs when small.
Do not worry at all about water on the leafs while in the dome or even after the dome is off.
It will not hurt the plant at all. Infact, this is the entire point of “misting” our seedlings and clones.
I spray mine with a nutrient spray, seedlings, clones and even full veg plants some times after transplanting them.
But if you could raise the RH in you tent and keep it up they would be more likely to adjust to dome off.
Honestly though long as they fit under it, I’d be in no hurry, just when you do have to, may want the RH in tent a little higher…
