Quick Wash Ethanol Tincture

RSO? It smells yucky

Throw it out at your own peril. :grinning:

I meant what is RSO? lol

Well, technically RSO is Rick Simpson Oil, but a lot of people use that term to cover any cannabis concentrate made with a solvent such as alcohol, that turns into black/green oil made for edibles/tincture, but never smoking.

The gooey oil is the good stuff.

Based on your post, I went ahead and got a source turbo and ultrasonic cleaner. Should arrive Wednesday. Any first hand recommendations you have for working both would be appreciated. Were you able how to make live resin without decarbing first? If so how was the terpene and oil concentration? Thanks

That’s wonderful! I hope you love the combo as much as I do.

Yes, for live resin, you cannot decarb first. That defeats the “live” part. :grinning:

For great smokables, everything has to be kept at sub zero temps. You want to filter it several times, too.

For edibles, temps can vary a bit more, depending on if you mind some chlorophyll. You will also notice more sludge (waxes and such…nothing medicinal about these) in your alcohol extract if you use warmer temps, but these can be filtered out. That being said, keep an eye out on the temp of your ultrasonic machine.

Honestly, with sub-zero temps, even FECO has a beautiful aroma. The shatter/wax/carts/etc I’ve made have been as delicious as store bought. I wish I could afford to test my extracts.

Currently, I get about 5-6 grams of fully purged oil per oz of bud (4-5 oz trim). It’s very, very do-able, and extremely easy. You’re going to be amazed by how fast your oils pile up! It’s a beautiful thing!

Here’s something I wrote-up on another thread. Thought it would fit in here, too.

Here’s my latest QWET.

Got 3 grams of lovely smokeable oil out of I think 10 grams of Blue Amnesia popcorn buds. Pretty sure it was 10 grams to start. May have been less.

From a single subzero wash, 2 hours in The Source, and 24 hours purging on a warming mat:

Do you run a 2nd and 3rd QWET on the plant material if you were using kief or top self bub? I am noticing that after the first rinse, I can still smell terpenes in the leftovers.

Absolutely. However, the 2nd & 3rd washes go to FECO, no matter.

I have three quarts to evaporate and so far so good. To be clear, both the goo and the gold have thc? Should I mix the stuff together, and last (I promise) I have not done too much in the way of edibles. Ideas? Tincture I just shot 5 or 10 ML and to the moon I went, but it was yucky.

Yes, the goo and the liquid are both FIRE! The goo is concentrated cannabis oil, while the gold liquid is goo still suspended in ethanol.

I like to put tincture in my coffee, at about 3-5ml per serving. The goo, I use at 1gram of goo per 8-10 servings of edibles.

So can you take keif from a dry ice shake in 73 micron bag, freeze it, soak in everclear, then strain several times? Get dabbable material after evaporation? Do you have to decarb kief? @blackthumbbetty

You sure can use kief! If you’re going to dab, decarbing is unnecessary. If you want to make edibles or even vape carts, decarb is needed. You can decarb after extracting, if you want.

@blackthumbbetty so I would just freeze kief, freeze everclear strain and evaporate for dabs? Sorry I just wanna be clear so I dk t waste my trim lol. Thank you so.much for the advice!

Yep! With kief, you’re going to get an extremely clean end product which is perfect for dabbing. There won’t be much to strain out (just empty trich husks), but definitely still very important.

You’re going to rub the kief off your trim? If you’re just using sugar trim, that changes how clean your end product might be.

@blackthumbbetty yes I was gunna take my trim and do a dry ice shake to get kief. Soak the kief in everclear (for how long I dont know), strain and evaporate.

Would it be easier just to soak the trim itself and skip the dry ice shake? I am 100% new to this so I feel like I need child step by step instructions lol.

You can absolutely skip the dry ice kief making, if you want. You can also do it.

No matter which way you go with, quick washing with freezing temps is the key. You want a very lightly colored wash. Might even look almost clear.

Do you have the method for making the powder feco? I am not on Facebook and couldn’t find a recipe.
