After watering problems which I hope are solved I began to think how much feed in a gallon jug do you feed say a 3 gallon pot with a 5 week old vegging plant. Thanks Mellow Yellow farmers
Good morning, that depends on a few things, what’s your soil or growing median? What nutes are you feeding ?
I looked back at my last soil grow journal. At 35 days I was measuring amounts less than a liter. Often 100’s of ML. Switched to coco. Volume increased to 2 - 3 liters. At six weeks was 4L.
Best recommendation is every time you think it needs water lift it up to sense its weight. In the beginning I would often use a moisture meter. Unless you are using living type soils or using dry surface fed nutrients, always water to runoff. The let it dry out to a moderate degree.

I’m using General Hydroponics Flora series and using this schedule.
My grow is Hydroponics so I’m using the schedule for that medium.
What are your plant growing in?

amateur’s question here, which I have looked up prior to asking: “water to runoff” means water until you see it puddling at the surface slightly?
Another definition I got from a planting forum defined it as watering until your pot starts draining water out of the bottom.
Since I am dealing with 1 and 2 week old seedlings and using a pump mister the second definition would be a lot of pumping!

Run off is when your water or nutrients run out the bottom of the pot. This helps expel un-used salts and minerals that collect in the root zone potentially locking out any nutrient uptake. I grow in coco and water or feed to run off once the plant has the 3-4th node showing. Pics would help, but you can stop misting
These were transplanted out of Jiffy pellets on Saturday 3/19. These pictures were taken on Tuesday, so they’ve grown quite a bit since then!
Medium: Happy Frog
Water: Reverse Osmosis pH 6.0 (just happens to be what I found at local co-op)
Nutrients: ILGM Seedlings 2X a week
Strain: Strawberry Kush CBD and Blueberry CBD
I am starting to rotate them because they are leaning. Also running a fan nearby to strengthen the stems.
Are you Germing these on the window sill? With the Happy Frog you don’t need any nutrients, that soil medium is amended with nutrients and beneficial microbes. You can water only PH 6.5 for roughly 4 weeks. Do you have a PH and TDS pen to measure PH and PPMS? What light, intake and exhaust will you be using. Those seedlings are stretching, meaning they’re reaching for the light and to stop that the light need to be lowered
Hey- thanks for the tips! This is my first time growing from seeds and I have found this forum super helpful for learning. These 4 came from Jiffy Pellets. The seeds didn’t germ in water, so I placed them in a mini Jiffy greenhouse until the 2nd set of leaves formed, then transferred to Happy Frog. That’s a West facing window sill and I am at 47degN. My plan is to transfer these to outside when they get to the right size and the temps go up. Our weather is all over the map this time of year. I did two clones last year on our deck, although I was always moving them around.

I have 8 other starts in larger 8" pots that are 1 week ahead of these 4. The 4 in the smaller containers, which I re-used from some outdoor sedum, are growing way faster. Smaller containers and more holes I am guessing. THANKS AGAIN!

@LateNightGardner Yep I have a Fox Farm feeding schedule. But do I put the whole gallon in 1, 3 gallon pot/per plant.
Hey @Bud_Wizer mix your gallon of nutrient pH’d around 6.5. Water to saturation, collect about a cup of runoff to check pH.
16 ounces daily from the drain pan , a vegging plant less than 3 months dont need a half or a full gallon ; what you doing is wetting the dirt to hold moisture for when the plants want a drink ?
Plants drink water just like you and they need it within every 24 hours unless you have good water retention soil to hold that water for days . I rarely wet my dirt now , i just fill drain pans and let the plants drink what they want , simple but i only put a cup maybe a day thats it , but you can fixed that autopots !

If you check the top of your fox farm nute schedule thing they give you a ppm to aim for with the weeks you should feed. I a have few in 3 gallons pot, probably get a gallon ish every 3 days, I do the left test. If light water, or wait tell tomorrow. Keep up good work
