Quick drying samples

I usually start with the lower popcorn nugs for samples.

I start taking some samples after week 6 or 7 (longer flowering strains) so they’re not too early, which is a waste. I usually go after mid level buds, don’t want the primo at top of canopy but want some nice buds to be able to judge properly. Usually I’m judging and deciding which clones I’ll be keeping so want a good sample to go by. Then I just chop it, dry for 3 days in the open air, then into a jar for a day or 2 for the moisture to level off across the buds, then fire it up.

Glad I asked that question, I was planning to take one of the smaller tops off the Blue Dream Saturday, dry to Tuesday. But it appears I should go lower.

I pick a scrawny bud, if it works the better buds will be fine. If it dosent work I can blame it on scrawny bud and not cut my throat.

Just chop the wet bud into small bits and scatter it on a tray or plate. Stash it somewhere dry with a bit of air moving, stir it around every 30 minutes or so and it’ll dry enough to smoke in an hour or two. It burns ok, better than any heat I’ve tried for taste but you know it’s green.

This is interesting…
Did you just use one paper towel? Or would a bit more maybe bunched up and the bud on top slow it just a bit ?

I took a few samples and dried it for a few days then jarred it for about a week …
It got me more stoned than I can remember being in my entire life …and my wife loved it too …she likes that speedy racy high …now this was totally larf that I tried to treat as if it was the nicest cola and took my time trimming because this was the first time trimming any of my own grown buds even it was larf…

It blew me away …so I’m cutting it in the AM …
That smoke was from about 2 weeks prior so she’s probably just right …and I see about 30 percent amber on even lower areas of the colas.

First grow and first harvest …plant 1 of 2
The other a few weeks behind but flowering harder than the first one …she’s about 4 weeks in and super sugary …it’s a hybrid but setiva dominant and wondering if I should do the same or vary it and let her go despite the piss awful weather October is gonna bring …

Haha sorry for the ramble !!

I’ve been experimenting with freezer/fridge drying method I wet trimmed some lower buds washed and drip dried then put it in the freezer for 3 days then in the fridge for 3 days. Then trimmed the rest of the sugar leaves. It smelled good with no grassy odor. Did another couple of branches at 2 day freezer/fridge that I cleaned up today. I think 3/3 days is better. 2/2 still had a little grassy odor to it.

Next I’m gonna just use the fridge for 4 to 6 days

Depends on the size of the flower, but a popcorn sized one dries in 3-4 hours? Give or take. A lot of variables.

Yeah just one paper towel and with as much damprid I had in the tupperware (a few pounds) it would not have mattered how many paper towels I used, once sealed up the damprid is going to suck the moisture out pretty quick. Would take longer to dry with less damprid used.

A little trick I found recently is using my lights. Ill put a popcorn bud on top of one of the strips at lights on. Few hours later flip it. By 6 hours it’s thoroughly dry and not vaporized or crispy.

May have to adjust for your own lights tho lol

Haha thats a problem I still havent fixed. Harvest in stages tends to help prolong a bit
